Fungal solid state culture of palm kernel cake

Bioresource Technology, 2006
Palm kernel cake (PKC), an agro-industrial by-product used extensively in the animal feed industry, has limited use in fish feeds due to its high fiber and low protein contents. In this study, PKC was processed under solid state culture conditions with five fungal strains and the effect of this fungal culturing on the amino acid, fatty acid, cellulose ...

Characterization of The Physical Properties of Palm Kernel Cake

open access: yesInternational Journal of Food Properties, 2012
A systematic sieving method (1 kg sample; 50 Hz; 0° inclination; 20 min) was used to obtain particle size distribution of palm kernel cake containing seven different particle sizes (4.83, 2.68, 1.50, 0.80, 0.51, 0.32, and 0.11 mm). Regardless of particle size, palm kernel cake was found to be of different shapes qualitatively with optical microscopy ...

Pelletised fuel production from palm kernel cake

open access: yesFuel Processing Technology, 2011
Abstract Biomass is an important source of renewable energy. Worldwide, the palm oil industry generates large amounts of waste materials, such as shells, fibres and palm kernel cake, which can be used for power generation. Processing the palm kernel cake into a uniform fuel through pelletisation will be an attractive option — assessing the ...

Hydration properties of palm kernel cake

Journal of Food Engineering, 2008
The hydration properties of palm kernel cake (PKC) were investigated for the bioconversion of PKC to poultry feed via solid state fermentation. At room temperature, the swelling capacity of PKC was found to be constant and unaffected by different particle sizes, while the water retention capacity was affected by different particle sizes.

Pyrolysis and combustion of oil palm stone and palm kernel cake in fixed-bed reactors

Bioresource Technology, 2010
The main objective of this research was to investigate the main characteristics of the thermo-chemical conversion of oil palm stone (OPS) and palm kernel cake (PKC). A series of combustion and pyrolysis tests were carried out in two fixed-bed reactors.

Evaluation of cadmium biosorption property of de-oiled palm kernel cake

International Journal of Phytoremediation, 2020
Cadmium contamination is a global concern because of its widespread nature of polluting both biotic and abiotic components of ecosystem. Though many natural, chemical/synthetic components have been researched for remediation of cadmium, development of an eco-friendly, economic biosorbent still remains a challenge.

A Study on the Adsorption of 2,4,6, Trichlorophenol by Palm Kernel Cake

2020
In this study, 2,4,6-trichlorophenol (TCP) adsorption on palm kernel cake (PKC) was examined. The effects of the initial concentration, agitation time, solution temperature and pH on TCP adsorption were examined in batch adsorption studies. The adsorption capacity was positively related to the initial concentration and agitation time and negatively ...

Performance of feedlot lambs fed palm kernel cake-based diets

Tropical Animal Health and Production, 2015
Fifty-four castrated male lambs with an average body weight of 23 ± 0.35 kg were randomly assigned to five treatments that consisted of different levels of palm kernel cake in the diet (0.0, 7.5, 15.0, 22.5, and 30.0 % on a DM basis) in order to evaluate the effects on intake, digestibility, empty body weight, and body gain composition.

Deproteinated palm kernel cake-derived oligosaccharides: A preliminary study

AIP Conference Proceedings, 2014
Preliminary study on microwave-assisted hydrolysis of deproteinated palm kernel cake (DPKC) to produce oligosaccharides using succinic acid was performed. Three important factors, i.e., temperature, acid concentration and reaction time, were selected to carry out the hydrolysis processes.

Bulk properties of palm kernel cake for solid‐state fermentation

Asia-Pacific Journal of Chemical Engineering, 2011
ABSTRACTThe bulk volumes of hydrated palm kernel cake (PKC) were investigated to generate information on bulk properties for solid‐state fermentation (SSF). Measurements were made under ambient conditions as regards the range of moisture level, sieved and unsieved PKC and two substrate handling procedures, viz.
