Biosynthesis of palmatine in Fagara coco

Phytochemistry, 1971
Abstract The administration of sodium formate- 14 C to Fagara coco yielded, among other alkaloids, radioactive palmatine (I). Degradation of I clearly showed that almost 20% of the tracer was located on the berberine bridge carbon.

Studies on the interaction of palmatine hydrochloride with bovine hemoglobin

Luminescence, 2013
ABSTRACTThe interaction between bovine hemoglobin (BHb) and palmatine hydrochloride (PMT) was investigated at different temperatures using multispectroscopy, as well as the effect of common metal ions (Ca2+, Mg2+, Zn2+, Cu2+, Fe2+, Fe3+, Co2+, Ni2+) on the BHb–PMT system.

Crystalline palmatine saccharinate pharmaceutical salt without reducing solubility and improving its hygroscopic stability with regard to palmatine chloride

Journal of Molecular Structure, 2021
Abstract In order to improve the hygroscopic stability of palmatine chloride (PMTCl) without reducing its solubility, on the basis of summarizing tetrahydroberberine and sulfophenyl acids pharmaceutical cocrystals/salts, we speculated that sodium saccharinate (SACNa), an organic acid salt with the same sulfonyl group, may be cocrystallized with ionic

Identification of palmatine as an inhibitor of West Nile virus

Archives of Virology, 2010
In this study, we investigated the specific inhibition of West Nile virus (WNV) NS2B-NS3 protease and viral propagation by palmatine, a chemical compound from Coptis chinensis Franch. It was demonstrated that palmatine could inhibit WNV NS2B-NS3 protease activity in an uncompetitive manner, with a 50% inhibitory concentration (IC(50)) of 96 microM ...

Radiolysis of berberine or palmatine in aqueous solution

Radiation Physics and Chemistry, 2011
The reactions of hydrated electron (eaq−), hydrogen atom (H) (reducing species) and Cl2•−,Br2•−,N•3,O•H radicals (oxidizing species) with berberine or palmatine in aqueous solution have been studied by steady-state and pulse radiolysis. The spectra of transient intermediates, leading to the final products, are presented.

Improving hygroscopic stability of palmatine chloride by forming a pharmaceutical salt cocrystal of palmatine chloride-gallic acid with neutral molecule

Journal of Drug Delivery Science and Technology, 2021
Abstract In order to ameliorate the hygroscopicity of palmatine chloride (PMTCl), an unreported salt cocrystal (2(C21H22O4NCl)·C7H6O5·2CH3OH, PMTCl-GA) of palmatine chloride with gallic acid (GA) has been designed and synthesized by a solvent evaporation method.

Predominant Binding Mode of Palmatine to DNA

The Journal of Physical Chemistry Letters
Palmatine is a protoberberine alkaloid, which may produce singlet oxygen under visible light irradiation and binds to DNA. The fact that singlet oxygen activation in palmatine may be triggered by environmental conditions, and in particular its interaction with nucleic acids, makes it a most suitable candidate for photodynamic therapy and DNA-targeted ...

A biogenetically patterned conversion of palmatine into polycarpine

Tetrahedron Letters, 1979
Abstract Oxidation of palmatine ( 1 ) choride with m -chloroperbenzoic acid in methylene chloride in the presence of sodium bicarbonate at near −78° C yields polycarpine ( 2 ). A new biogenetic route to the aporphines is proposed which does not involve phenolic oxidative coupling, and proceeds through the intermediacy of protoberberinium

Palmatine ameliorates nephrotoxicity and hepatotoxicity induced by gentamicin in rats

Archives of Physiology and Biochemistry, 2019
The aim of this study was to investigate the effects of palmatine on gentamicin toxicity. Rats arranged in four groups: 1- Sham, 2- GM, 3- & 4- GM + palmatine (50 & 100 mg/kg). Gentamicin led to increase in plasma AST, ALT, BUN and creatinine. In addition, fractional excretion of Na and K were increased and urine flow rate and creatinine clearance were
