Interaction of Palmatine with DNA: An Environmentally Controlled Phototherapy Drug

The Journal of Physical Chemistry B, 2014
Palmatine is one of the four main protoberberine alkaloids and is largely employed in pharmacy and medicine as a versatile drug with considerable biological activities. More recently, palmatine has been proposed as a promising DNA phototherapy drug, notably due to its ability to produce in situ singlet oxygen only when interacting with DNA.

Flow-Injection Post-Chemiluminescence Method for the Determination of Palmatine

Applied Spectroscopy, 2013
A post-chemiluminescence (PCL) phenomenon was observed when palmatine was injected in a mixture of N-bromosuccinimide (NBS) and alkaline dichlorofluorescein (DCF) after the chemiluminescence (CL) reaction of NBS–alkaline DCF had finished. Based on the PCL reaction, a rapid and sensitive method for the determination of palmatine was established.

Pharmacokinetic comparisons of berberine and palmatine in normal and metabolic syndrome rats

Journal of Ethnopharmacology, 2014
San-Huang formula is a popular traditional Chinese medicine (TCM) preparation to replenish Qi, resolve phlegm, dissipate blood stasis, and therapy metabolic syndrome in China. Metabolic syndrome, which is accompanied by Qi and blood stasis, mainly arises from spleen deficiency in essence.

Binding properties of palmatine to DNA: spectroscopic and molecular modeling investigations

Luminescence, 2015
AbstractPalmatine, an isoquinoline alkaloid, is an important medicinal herbal extract with diverse pharmacological and biological properties. In this work, spectroscopic and molecular modeling approaches were employed to reveal the interaction between palmatine and DNA isolated from herring sperm.

Palmatine plays a role in sedation and hypnosis by increasing 5-hydroxytryptamine

Cellular and Molecular Biology, 2019
Objective of this study was to investigate the sedative and hypnotic effects of palmatine and to observe whether its mechanism is related to 5-hydroxytryptamine (5-HT) and GABA. The sedative and hypnotic effects of palmatine on mice were observed with mouse autonomic activity test, direct sleep test, pentobarbital sodium in suprathreshold and ...

The encapsulation mechanism of palmatine in anionic liposomes during flash nanoprecipitation

Colloids and Surfaces B: Biointerfaces
Liposomes, with their unique bilayer structure and biocompatibility, have attracted widespread attention in the food, pharmaceutical, and cosmetic industry. However, low production rate, spontaneous fusion, and the leakage of the encapsulated drugs (especially small hydrophilic molecules) have limited the application of such delivery vesicle.

Selective extraction of berberine and palmatine from Huangbai powder.

Pakistan journal of pharmaceutical sciences, 2013
Berberine and palmatine are two of the main bioactive components in Huangbai, a major Chinese medicinal herb. The current methods to extract these compounds usually involving the usage of inorganic acid and base, are not only complex and time-consuming, but have a low selectivity.
