Does a Change from Whole to Powdered Food (Artemia franciscana eggs) Increase Oviposition in the Ladybird Coleomegilla maculata?

open access: yesInsects, 2015
The limited availability of alternative foods to replace natural prey hinders cost-effective mass production of ladybird beetles for augmentative biological control. We compared the effects of powdered vs. whole Artemia franciscana (A.

Peptide Amphiphiles Hitchhike on Endogenous Biomolecules for Enhanced Cancer Imaging and Therapy

open access: yesAdvanced Materials, EarlyView.
Weakly assembled peptide amphiphile nanostructures disassemble in circulation and reassemble with blood biomolecules, mainly lipoproteins. Binding to blood biomolecules prolongs blood circulation and improves accumulation in solid tumors. In the tumor microenvironment, peptide amphiphiles assemble with cholesterol‐rich domains of cell membranes ...

Changes in fatty acid composition of sulfolipid and phospholipids during maturation of alfalfa

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1967
Lipids were extracted from alfalfa samples collected at intervals over the growing season and were fractionated to yield pure sulfolipid. In the sulfolipid and in a phospholipid fraction the major fatty acids were palmitic, linolenic, and linoleic, of ...

Effect of α-Bromo-palmitate on the Oxidation of Palmitic Acid by Rat Liver Cells

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1971
Abstract Rat liver cell suspensions oxidized [1-14C]palmitic acid and [1-14C]palmitoyl-l-carnitine efficiently to CO2. Oxidation of tracer amounts of palmitate was inhibited by α-bromo-palmitate (2 x 10-4 m). The oxidation of tracer amounts of palmitoyl-l-carnitine was not affected.

Critical Role of IL1R2‐ENO1 Interaction in Inhibiting Glycolysis‐Mediated Pyroptosis for Protection Against Lethal Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The authors have discovered that intracellular interleukin 1 receptor 2 (IL1R2) negatively regulates pyroptosis and inflammation by inhibiting glycolysis in sepsis. Soluble IL1R2 is released from macrophages undergoing pyroptosis. IL1R2 acts as a novel negative regulator of glycolysis by interacting with enolase 1 (ENO1), thereby inhibiting gasdermin D

Glucose‐Responsive PAGR1‐Regulated Skeletal Muscle Gene Program Controls Systemic Glucose Homeostasis and Hepatic Metabolism

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The study reveals that PAXIP1‐associated glutamate‐rich protein 1 (PAGR1), a glucose‐responsive regulator in skeletal muscle, modulates systemic glucose homeostasis and hepatic metabolism. Muscle‐specific PAGR1 deletion enhances insulin signaling, promotes glucose transporter 4 (GLUT4) translocation, and protects against high‐fat‐diet‐induced insulin ...

Subcellular localization of hexadecanedioic acid activation in human liver

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1974
The activation of hexadecanedioic acid has been studied in subcellular fractions of human liver. The activation capacity in a total homogenate of human liver was found to be 0.5 μmole/min/g wet wt of tissue, about 10% of that for palmitic acid ...

Enzymatic Formation of Hexadecenoic Acid from Palmitic Acid

open access: yesAgricultural and Biological Chemistry, 1975
Desaturation of palmitic acid was investigated in an enzyme system prepared from rat liver. 2-trans-Hexadecenoic acid as well as 9-cis-hexadecenoic acid (palmitoleic acid) were found to be formed as monoenoic acid in this system.

Deficiency of SCAMP5 Triggers Pancreatic β‐Cell Secretory Dysfunction and Apoptosis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study demonstrates that hyperglycemia in diabetes activates ChREBP, which epigenetically represses SCAMP5 expression in pancreatic β‐cells. This SCAMP5 deficiency impairs insulin secretion by downregulating the calcium channel CaV1.2. Furthermore, reduced SCAMP5 triggers β‐cell apoptosis by stabilizing VDAC1 and enhancing its interaction with Bax,

Influence of hight - fat diets with different fatty-acid composition on rat periodontal condition

open access: yesJournal of Education, Health and Sport, 2017
Aim: Determine the effect of high-fat diets (HFD) with different fatty acid composition on the condition of the gums of rats. Materials and Methods: 4 types of edible fats were used: sunflower oil ( main acid - linoleic), olive oil (main acid -oleic ...
