Obesity and Pancreatic Diseases

open access: yesThe Korean Journal of Gastroenterology, 2012
Obesity is defined as BMI (calculated as weight in kg divided by height in m2) more than 30, and overweight is defined as BMI of 25-29.9. Obesity has been considered as a risk factor for pancreatic diseases, including pancreatitis and pancreatic cancer. Severe acute pancreatitis is significantly more frequent in obese patients.

Case Report: Partial response to single-agent pembrolizumab in a chemotherapy-resistant metastatic pancreatic cancer patient with a high tumor mutation burden

open access: yesFrontiers in Oncology, 2023
Single-agent immune checkpoint blockade has shown no clinical benefits in pancreatic cancer. Recently, the programmed cell death protein 1 (PD-1) antibody pembrolizumab has been recommended as a treatment option for high tumor mutational burden (TMB ...

Positive feedback between lncRNA FLVCR1-AS1 and KLF10 may inhibit pancreatic cancer progression via the PTEN/AKT pathway

open access: yesJournal of Experimental & Clinical Cancer Research, 2021
Background FLVCR1-AS1 is a key regulator of cancer progression. However, the biological functions and underlying molecular mechanisms of pancreatic cancer (PC) remain unknown.

A case of walled‐off necrosis extending into the pelvic cavity successfully treated by endoscopic necrosectomy using a lumen‐apposing metal stent

open access: yesDEN Open, 2022
A 31‐year‐old man developed massive walled‐off necrosis extending into the pelvic cavity following severe acute alcoholic pancreatitis. Endoscopic ultrasound‐guided fistula drainage was performed using a lumen‐apposing metal stent, but this was ...

LncRNA-PACERR induces pro-tumour macrophages via interacting with miR-671-3p and m6A-reader IGF2BP2 in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Hematology & Oncology, 2022
Background LncRNA-PACERR plays critical role in the polarization of tissue-associated macrophages (TAMs). In this study, we found the function and molecular mechanism of PACERR in TAMs to regulate pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) progression ...

Development and validation of a cancer stem cell-related signature for prognostic prediction in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesJournal of Translational Medicine, 2020
Background Cancer stem cells (CSCs) are crucial to the malignant behaviour and poor prognosis of pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC). In recent years, CSC biology has been widely studied, but practical prognostic signatures based on CSC-related genes

Real‐world implications of nonbiological factors with staging, clinical management, and prognostic prediction in pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma

open access: yesCancer Medicine, 2023
Background The American Joint Committee on Cancer (AJCC) tumor‐node‐metastasis (TNM) staging system focuses on traditional biological factors (BFs). The present study incorporates nonbiological factors (NBFs) into the AJCC‐TNM staging system in terms of ...

The Role of Noncoding RNAs in Pancreatic Birth Defects [PDF]

open access: yes, 2023
Congenital defects in the pancreas can cause severe health issues such as pancreatic cancer and diabetes which require lifelong treatment. Regenerating healthy pancreatic cells to replace malfunctioning cells has been considered a promising cure for ...
