Redefining CHI3L1: Therapeutic Opportunities at the Crossroads of Immune Suppression and Disease Progression

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Chitinase‐3‐like‐1 (CHI3L1, also known as YKL‐40) has been recognized as a biomarker of inflammation and tissue remodeling and has now emerged as a pseudoenzymatic immune checkpoint. Recent structural, immunological, and translational studies redefine it as an active regulator of immune suppression rather than a passive disease marker. Despite

Navigating the Complexity: A Comprehensive Review of GSK‐3 Inhibition in Regenerative Medicine

open access: yesMedicinal Research Reviews, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Glycogen synthase kinase‐3 (GSK‐3) is a central regulator of numerous cellular signaling pathways, with critical roles in metabolism, proliferation, differentiation, and tissue regeneration. This review explores the multifaceted effects of pharmacological GSK‐3 inhibition across multiple body districts, focusing on its highly context‐dependent

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in chronic pancreatitis

Bailliere's Best Practice and Research in Clinical Gastroenterology, 2010
Exocrine pancreatic insufficiency (EPI) is a serious condition which occurs in several diseases including chronic pancreatitis (CP), cystic fibrosis, pancreatic cancer, and as a result of pancreatic surgery. The lack or absence of pancreatic enzymes leads to an inadequate absorption of fat, proteins, and carbohydrates, causing steatorrhoea and ...

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy

Current Gastroenterology Reports, 2001
Malabsorption due to severe pancreatic exocrine insufficiency is one of the most important late features of chronic pancreatitis. Generally, steatorrhea is more severe and occurs several years prior to malabsorption of other nutrients because synthesis and secretion of lipase are impaired more rapidly, its intraluminal survival is shorter, and the lack

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy.

The American journal of the medical sciences, 1989
The relative efficacy of three commercial pancreatic enzyme supplements in improving fat absorption was studied using the [14C]triolein breath test in 12 patients with chronic pancreatitis. Two of the supplements were enteric coated. The one nonenteric coated product was studied twice: with and without ranitidine coadministration.

Pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy in patients with pancreatic cancer: A national prospective study

Pancreatology, 2021
UK national guidelines recommend pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) in pancreatic cancer. Over 80% of pancreatic cancers are unresectable and managed in non-surgical units. The aim was to assess variation in PERT prescribing, determine factors associated with its use and identify potential actions to improve prescription rates.RICOCHET was a ...

Intestinal Concentrations of Pancreatic Enzymes following Pancreatic Replacement Therapy

Scandinavian Journal of Gastroenterology, 1980
The activities of amylase, lipase, phospholipase, and trypsin in four commercially available preparations of pancreatin with different galenic and adjunctive protective properties were estimated in vitro, using human small-intestinal juice as the incubation medium.

Community Perspective on Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy in Cystic Fibrosis

Journal of Pediatric Gastroenterology and Nutrition, 2022
People with cystic fibrosis (CF) and exocrine pancreatic insufficiency must take pancreatic enzyme replacement therapy (PERT) to prevent malnutrition and gastrointestinal (GI) symptoms. Finding better ways to manage GI complaints is a high priority for the CF community.

Pancreatic Enzyme Replacement Therapy During Pancreatic Insufficiency

Nutrition in Clinical Practice, 2014
Pancreatic stimulation and therefore digestion is a tightly controlled and hormonally mediated process. Any alterations affecting any of the systematic steps for successful digestion and absorption to occur will impair appropriate pancreatic enzymatic secretion, entry into the bowel lumen, functionality once inside the lumen, and thus appropriate ...
