Contrasting Effects of Chronic Glucokinase Activation and Inhibition on Pancreatic Beta‐Cell Function

open access: yesThe FASEB Journal, Volume 40, Issue 7, 15 April 2026.
In the non‐diabetic beta‐cell (top left) activation of glucokinase (bottom left) leads to inhibition of mitochondrial metabolism and thereby impairs insulin secretion. The effect is similar to that of chronic hyperglycaemia as seen in the diabetic beta‐cell (top right).

A Review of Vagus Nerve Stimulation for Disease: Comprehensive Theory and Evidence for Mechanisms of Action

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Vagus nerve stimulation (VNS) effects span central and peripheral organ systems through diverse mechanistic pathways. This comprehensive review provides a unified synthesis of these mechanisms across neurological, cardiovascular, immunological, metabolic, and gastrointestinal domains, filling a critical gap and serving as a foundational resource for ...

Functional Segregation of Pancreatic Microcirculation Reveals Sex‐Dependent Microhemodynamic Signatures

open access: yesComprehensive Physiology, Volume 16, Issue 2, April 2026.
Pancreatic exocrine microcirculation exhibits sexual dimorphism arising from steroid–genetic interactions. Laser Doppler flowmetry combined with wavelet analysis identifies a male passive coupling phenotype aligned with systemic pressure and a female active vasomotion phenotype driven by ERβ‐mediated, NO‐dependent oscillations.

Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Leading to a Diagnosis of Multiple Endocrine Neoplasia Type 1

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT Pancreatic neuroendocrine neoplasms are rare but occasionally encountered. They are generally highly vascularized solid tumors, often round in shape with clear boundaries, defined contours, and a homogeneous internal structure. However, they can also present with atypical features, such as cystic degeneration, hemorrhage, calcification, and ...

A Case of Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumor Growing Intraductal Extension toward the Main Pancreatic Duct Complicated by Thrombocytopenia: Diagnostic Challenges and Management Strategy

open access: yesDEN Open, Volume 6, Issue 1, April 2026.
ABSTRACT We present a rare and diagnostically challenging case of a pancreatic neuroendocrine tumor (pNET) with intraductal growth into the main pancreatic duct (MPD), complicated by severe thrombocytopenia due to myelodysplastic syndrome. A 37‐year‐old male presented with thrombocytopenia.
