Twisting the End Game: How Telomere Chromatin Modifications Shape Telomere Maintenance

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 25, Issue 9, September 2026.
Chromatin modifications on telomeres are linked to the mode of telomere DNA replication. A coupled feedforward loop model is proposed based on these to lock the ALT cancer cells in this alternative mode of telomere replication. ABSTRACT Cell division inevitably shortens telomeric DNA owing to the end‐replication problem.

Peripheral κ opioid receptor in pain and inflammation: From molecular signalling and gene expression to drug discovery

open access: yesBritish Journal of Pharmacology, Volume 183, Issue 17, Page 5157-5189, September 2026.
The κ opioid receptor (κ receptor, KOR) is a G protein‐coupled receptor with well established roles in analgesia and immune modulation. Although historically studied primarily in the central nervous system (CNS), growing evidence indicates that κ signalling in peripheral tissues plays an important role in regulating pain, inflammation and immune ...

Development and Crossover Evaluation of an Artificial Intelligence‐Assisted System for Solid Pancreatic Lesion Detection and Pancreatic Parenchyma Recognition in Endoscopic Ultrasonography (With Video)

open access: yesDigestive Endoscopy, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Overview of the development and randomized crossover evaluation of an artificial intelligence (AI)‐assisted overlay system for endoscopic ultrasonography (EUS). The system was designed to support detection of solid pancreatic lesions (SPLs) and recognition of pancreatic parenchyma (PP).

Endoscopic Papillectomy May Be a Feasible Treatment Option for Elderly Patients With Ampullary Tumors: A Multicenter Retrospective Study

open access: yesDigestive Endoscopy, Volume 38, Issue 9, September 2026.
Multicenter retrospective analysis of 255 patients undergoing endoscopic papillectomy demonstrated significantly lower rates of delayed bleeding and post‐EP pancreatitis in patients aged ≥ 75 years. Age ≥ 75 75 years was independently associated with reduced risks of both adverse events, while serious complications, complete resection, and recurrence ...

Unveiling the molecular profile of adenosquamous gallbladder carcinoma: characterization of a Caucasian cohort

open access: yesHistopathology, Volume 89, Issue 3, Page 442-455, September 2026.
GBASCs are MMRp tumours, exhibiting minimal HER2 overexpression and elevated PD‐L1 expression compared to adenocarcinomas. Especially in metastatic and TP53‐wild type tumours, GBASCs can express CLDN18, albeit limited to the glandular component. Their genomic profile resembles that of adenocarcinomas with an enrichment in alterations on PIK3CA, PTEN ...

In Vitro Effects of Anaesthetic Compounds on a Panel of Solid Tumour Cell Lines—An Exploratory Study

open access: yesJournal of Cellular and Molecular Medicine, Volume 30, Issue 18, September 2026.
ABSTRACT Anaesthetic agents are essential for surgical procedures, yet their potential role on tumour cell biology remains incompletely understood. Emerging evidence suggests that these compounds can act both as protumor and antitumor agents, influencing cellular processes such as proliferation, migration and cell death mechanisms.
