Ketogenic diet therapy for the treatment of pediatric epilepsy

open access: yesEpileptic Disorders, Volume 27, Issue 2, Page 144-155, April 2025.
Abstract In 1921, the classic ketogenic diet was created at the Mayo Clinic in Rochester, Minnesota to treat epilepsy in children and adults. Over a century later, it is a widely used, standard‐of‐care therapy for typically treatment‐resistant epilepsy worldwide.

Optical detection of fractal dimensions of MUC13 stained pancreatic tissues for cancer diagnostics [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2018
Transmission intensity of a thin tissue sample produce intensity distribution that is proportional to the refractive index pattern in the thin slice, in turn reflects mass density pattern, and using the intensity pattern, fractal dimension can be calculated. In this paper, we report fractal dimension analyses of MUC13 stained pancreatic cancer tissues.

GREM1 deficiency induced bone marrow adipose niche promotes B‐cell acute lymphoblastic leukemia disease progression

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Too often, children treated for B‐cell acute lymphocytic leukemia (B‐ALL) experience relapse. Here, the authors investigate the role of dyslipidemia in leukemia progression. Higher adipogenicity in bone marrow mesenchymal stem cells, and increased triglyceride accumulation, are associated with higher risk of death.

Association between prediagnostic serum metabolites and pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma risk in two prospective cohorts

open access: yesInternational Journal of Cancer, EarlyView.
What's New? Exposures and mechanisms that contribute to and promote pancreatic ductal adenocarcinoma (PDAC) remain unclear. In this study, the authors applied metabolomics to better understand PDAC etiology by examining associations between prediagnostic serum metabolites and PDAC risk.

A Novel and Efficient Tumor Detection Framework for Pancreatic Cancer via CT Images [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
As Deep Convolutional Neural Networks (DCNNs) have shown robust performance and results in medical image analysis, a number of deep-learning-based tumor detection methods were developed in recent years. Nowadays, the automatic detection of pancreatic tumors using contrast-enhanced Computed Tomography (CT) is widely applied for the diagnosis and staging

FIGO guideline on liver disease and pregnancy

open access: yesInternational Journal of Gynecology &Obstetrics, EarlyView.
Abstract The number of women entering pregnancy with chronic liver disease is rising. Gestational liver disorders affect 3% of the pregnant population. Both can be associated with significant maternal and fetal morbidity and mortality. European guidance has recently been published to inform management.

Autophagy and the pancreas: Healthy and disease states

open access: yesFrontiers in Cell and Developmental Biology
Macroautophagy/autophagy is an intracellular degradation pathway that has an important effect on both healthy and diseased pancreases. It protects the structure and function of the pancreas by maintaining organelle homeostasis and removing damaged ...

Segmentation for Classification of Screening Pancreatic Neuroendocrine Tumors [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
This work presents comprehensive results to detect in the early stage the pancreatic neuroendocrine tumors (PNETs), a group of endocrine tumors arising in the pancreas, which are the second common type of pancreatic cancer, by checking the abdominal CT scans.
