Safety and efficacy of a feed additive consisting of l‐cystine produced with Escherichia coli DSM 34232 for all animal species (Wacker Chemie AG)

open access: yesEFSA Journal, Volume 23, Issue 10, October 2025.
Abstract Following a request from the European Commission, EFSA was asked to deliver a scientific opinion on the safety and efficacy of l‐cystine produced with a genetically modified strain of Escherichia coli K‐12 (DSM 34232) as a sensory feed additive (functional group: flavouring compounds) for all animal species.

Insights into Cross-Kingdom Plant Pathogenic Bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Plant and human pathogens have evolved disease factors to successfully exploit their respective hosts. Phytopathogens utilize specific determinants that help to breach reinforced cell walls and manipulate plant physiology to facilitate the disease ...

Insect‐Microbe‐Based Laccase: Untapped Natural Resource for Industrial and Biotechnological Applications

open access: yesAdvanced Sustainable Systems, Volume 9, Issue 9, September 2025.
The insect‐microbe interplay fulfills a key ecological role involving the degradation of ligninocellulose biomass. This is coordinated by the secretion of different kinds of proteins, of which ligninolytic enzymes, such as laccases (Lacs), are of prime importance.

Novel plant cell suspension platforms for saffron apocarotenoid production and its impact on carotenoid and volatile profiles

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 9, Page 3903-3918, September 2025.
Summary Saffron apocarotenoids, including crocins, picrocrocin and safranal, are valuable metabolites with pharmaceutical and cosmetic potential. However, their natural plant sources are difficult to cultivate, which limits large‐scale production. The identification of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs), which catalyse the first and most critical ...

First detection of Pantoea ananatis, the causal agent of bacterial center rot of onion in Morocco

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2016
Pantoea ananatis is an important pathogen causing bacterial center rot in onion. Isolated strains from onion soft rot bulbs based on morphological characteristics were tested for hypersensitivity reaction on tobacco.

Rice and bean AHL-mimic quorum-sensing signals specifically interfere with the capacity to form biofilms by plant-associated bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many bacteria regulate their gene expression in response to changes in their population density in a process called quorum sensing (QS), which involves communication between cells mediated by small diffusible signal molecules termed autoinducers.

Field selection of elite events of East African highland bananas expressing elevated levels of pro‐vitamin A

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 9, Page 3713-3726, September 2025.
Summary Biofortification of staple crops is a sustainable strategy to deliver essential micronutrients to impoverished populations in developing countries. Banana is a highly valued crop consumed by over 75% of Ugandans. However, the starchy green cooking bananas have very low levels of pro‐vitamin A (PVA) and heavy dietary reliance on them has been ...
