Use of the λ Red-recombineering method for genetic engineering of Pantoea ananatis [PDF]

open access: yesBMC Molecular Biology, 2009
Abstract Background Pantoea ananatis, a member of the Enterobacteriacea family, is a new and promising subject for biotechnological research. Over recent years, impressive progress in its application to L-glutamate production has been achieved.

Novel plant cell suspension platforms for saffron apocarotenoid production and its impact on carotenoid and volatile profiles

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 9, Page 3903-3918, September 2025.
Summary Saffron apocarotenoids, including crocins, picrocrocin and safranal, are valuable metabolites with pharmaceutical and cosmetic potential. However, their natural plant sources are difficult to cultivate, which limits large‐scale production. The identification of carotenoid cleavage dioxygenases (CCDs), which catalyse the first and most critical ...

Field selection of elite events of East African highland bananas expressing elevated levels of pro‐vitamin A

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 9, Page 3713-3726, September 2025.
Summary Biofortification of staple crops is a sustainable strategy to deliver essential micronutrients to impoverished populations in developing countries. Banana is a highly valued crop consumed by over 75% of Ugandans. However, the starchy green cooking bananas have very low levels of pro‐vitamin A (PVA) and heavy dietary reliance on them has been ...

Rice and bean AHL-mimic quorum-sensing signals specifically interfere with the capacity to form biofilms by plant-associated bacteria [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Many bacteria regulate their gene expression in response to changes in their population density in a process called quorum sensing (QS), which involves communication between cells mediated by small diffusible signal molecules termed autoinducers.

Breeding triple‐advantage cottonseed with higher yield, enhanced nutrition, and reduced toxicity by redirecting terpenoid metabolism to astaxanthin

open access: yesPlant Biotechnology Journal, Volume 23, Issue 7, Page 2839-2851, July 2025.
Summary Cottonseed is a valuable source of edible oil and protein, but its utilization is limited by high gossypol content. In this study, we engineered cotton (Gossypium hirsutum) to biosynthesize astaxanthin through both single‐gene (CrBKT) and multi‐gene (CrBKT, ZmPSY1, PaCrtI, HpCrtZ) expression strategies.

Tolerance to Herbicides and Resistance to Antibacterial Drugs of Bacterial Isolates From the Guarani Aquifer System (Brazil)

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 6, June 2025.
Sites in Southern Brazil (RS state) where water samples from the Guarani Aquifer System were collected and from which bacteria were isolated and further tested for herbicides tolerance and antimicrobial resistance. ABSTRACT The contamination of water bodies by pesticides and antibiotics is a concerning environmental problem on a global scale.

Flowering Plant Microbiomes and Network Interactions Across an Urban Gradient

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology, Volume 27, Issue 4, April 2025.
Analysis of plant anthosphere microbiomes reveals that the bacterial and fungal microbiomes are diverse in the plant community with no effect of urbanisation. Highly prevalent and abundant bacteria and fungi tend to significantly co‐occur. Detections of rbcL in flower‐plant networks identify Paulownia sp.
