Reservation-Based Federated Scheduling for Parallel Real-Time Tasks

open access: yes, 2017
This paper considers the scheduling of parallel real-time tasks with arbitrary-deadlines. Each job of a parallel task is described as a directed acyclic graph (DAG).

Structural insights into an engineered feruloyl esterase with improved MHET degrading properties

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
A feruloyl esterase was engineered to mimic key features of MHETase, enhancing the degradation of PET oligomers. Structural and computational analysis reveal how a point mutation stabilizes the active site and reshapes the binding cleft, expading substrate scope.

Styles of providing negative information by doctors on the basis of the analysis of the Breaking Bad News Skills questionnaire

open access: yesPsychiatria i Psychologia Kliniczna, 2018
Aim of the study: Identification of factors which determine effective communication between a doctor and a patient. Development of a tool for the evaluation of doctors’ skills of breaking bad news to patients’ relatives. Material and methods: The study

A methionine‐lined active site governs carbocation stabilization and product specificity in a bacterial terpene synthase

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals a unique active site enriched in methionine residues and demonstrates that these residues play a critical role by stabilizing carbocation intermediates through novel sulfur–cation interactions. Structure‐guided mutagenesis further revealed variants with significantly altered product profiles, enhancing pseudopterosin formation. These

Valosin‐containing protein counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its ATPase activity in vitro

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Biomolecular condensates formed by fused in sarcoma (FUS) are dissolved by high ATP concentrations yet persist in cells. Using a reconstituted system, we demonstrate that valosin‐containing protein (VCP), an AAA+ ATPase, counteracts ATP‐driven dissolution of FUS condensates through its D2 ATPase activity.

Analysis of LoRaWAN Uplink with Multiple Demodulating Paths and Capture Effect

open access: yes, 2019
Low power wide area networks (LPWANs), such as the ones based on the LoRaWAN protocol, are seen as enablers of large number of IoT applications and services.

Diversity and complexity in neural organoids

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Neural organoid research aims to expand genetic diversity on one side and increase tissue complexity on the other. Chimeroids integrate multiple donor genomes within single organoids. Self‐organising multi‐identity organoids, exogenous cell seeding, or enforced assembly of region‐specific organoids contribute to tissue complexity.

Parallel Factor Analysis for multidimensional decomposition of fNIRS data [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
AbstractSignificanceCurrent techniques for data analysis in functional near-infrared spectroscopy (fNIRS), such as artifact correction, do not allow to integrate the information originating from both wavelengths, considering only temporal and spatial dimensions of the signal’s structure.

Hyperosmotic stress induces PARP1‐mediated HPF1‐dependent mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Sorbitol‐induced hyperosmotic stress rapidly induces reversible mono(ADP‐ribosyl)ation (MARylation) on PARP1 without the signs of genotoxic signaling. We show that PARP1 autoMARylation is HPF1 dependent and forms hydroxylamine‐resistant O‐glycosidic linkages.

Fluorescence spectral characteristics of DOM and its effects on the bacterial community structure in Bosten Lake, China

open access: yesJournal of Freshwater Ecology
Bosten Lake is a typical inland lake in the arid and semiarid region of northwestern China. However, the influence of the dissolved organic matter (DOM) source composition on the bacterial community structure and diversity across various functional zones,
