Plastic-optical-fiber-based parallel optical interconnects

IEEE Journal of Selected Topics in Quantum Electronics, 1999
The implementation of plastic optical fibers (POFs) in parallel optical interconnects is reported. 8/spl times/8 array interconnects with a potential of >100-Gb/s accumulated data throughput have been demonstrated using 125 /spl mu/m-diameter POFs. The technology, the limitations and the potential of POF-interconnects are discussed.

24-channel synchronous parallel optical fiber interconnection

Proceedings of 1995 SBMO/IEEE MTT-S International Microwave and Optoelectronics Conference, 2002
The article describes the complete experimental demonstration of an optoelectronic parallel interconnection spanning 24 parallel channels comprising three units of hermetically packaged monolithic 8-element laser array, integrated 8-element fiber optical ribbon, and monolithic 8-element photodetector array, and the corresponding 24-channel electronic ...

Adaptive Parallel Inscription in Multi‐Core Fiber

Laser & Photonics Reviews
AbstractThe holographic multi‐foci technique has gained extensive applications in femtosecond laser processing as it can remarkably enhance fabrication efficiency. However, in the field of optical fiber processing, due to the position‐dependent aberration induced by optical fiber's cylindrical geometry and protective coating, achieving precise control ...

Raman fiber laser with two parallel couplers

Optical Engineering, 2005
We report an intracavity ring laser constructed using two parallel directional fiber couplers that generates up to sixth-order cascaded Stokes. Pumping with 1117 nm results in a Raman fiber laser operating at 1572 nm. Using 4.2-W pump power and a fiber Bragg grating at 1117 nm to reflect the residual pump, we obtain an output power of 0.65 W, and hence

Presynaptic plasticity at cerebellar parallel fiber terminals.

Functional neurology, 2011
The cerebellum plays a role in the control of sensorimotor functions and possibly also of higher cognitive processing. The granule cells, which are abundant and unique in their characteristic dendritic morphology, allow the cerebellum to combine the advantages of sparse coding with a high sensitivity for individual afferents at the input stage. Plastic
