Introducing Borsantrazole: A Trifunctional Boron‐Based Pyrazole That Extends the Lifespan of Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis Mice

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Herein we report a boron‐based pyrazole, (Borsantrazole ‐ a small molecule that selectively targets oxidative stress) that significantly increases survival, reduces weight loss, delays disease onset, and affects global protein changes in the SOD1‐G37R mouse model of ALS.

SxtA and sxtG Gene Expression and Toxin Production in the Mediterranean Alexandrium minutum (Dinophyceae)

open access: yesMarine Drugs, 2014
The dinoflagellate Alexandrium minutum is known for the production of potent neurotoxins affecting the health of human seafood consumers via paralytic shellfish poisoning (PSP).

Human shellfish poisoning: Implementation of a national surveillance program in France

open access: yesFrontiers in Marine Science, 2023
Toxic algae and their toxins represent an emerging public health issue, particularly due to global warming. The toxicological mechanisms of neurotoxic phycotoxins and their human health effects have been widely described (paralytic, neurological, amnesic,

Semiquantitation of Paralytic Shellfish Toxins by Hydrophilic Interaction Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry Using Relative Molar Response Factors

open access: yes, 2020
Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are a complex class of analogs of the potent neurotoxin saxitoxin (STX). Since calibration standards are not available for many PSTs, including C-11 hydroxyl analogs called M-toxins, accurate quantitation by liquid ...

A Blood‐Derived Factor Rescues ALS: Platelet Factor 4 Activates OPTN‐Dependent Autophagy to Clear SOD1 Aggregates Independently of PINK1

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Systemic platelet factor 4 (PF4) is significantly depleted in amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS). Peripheral PF4 replenishment restores central proteostasis by driving OPTN‐dependent, PINK1‐independent selective autophagy in motor neurons. This intervention effectively clears toxic SOD1 aggregates, blunts glial activation, and preserves neuromuscular ...

Toward High‐Resolution Polymeric Neural Interfaces: A Practical Guide for Electron Beam Lithography

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Electron beam lithography (EBL) enables sub‐micron patterning of polymer‐based neural implants, overcoming the resolution limits of optical lithography. By addressing challenges such as charging, non‐planarity, and substrate heating, it supports higher channel density, improved miniaturization, and better long‐term tissue integration.

Human intoxication with paralytic shellfish toxins: Clinical parameters and toxin analysis in plasma and urine

open access: yesBiological Research, 2005
This study reports the data recorded from four patients intoxicated with shellfish during the summer 2002, after consuming ribbed mussels (Aulacomya ater) with paralytic shellfish toxin contents of 8,066 ± 61.37 mg/100 gr of tissue.

Chimeric IL‐6/4R‐LL37 Engineered Macrophages Achieve Synchronized Inflammation Control and Antimicrobial Defence in Sepsis

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Engineered macrophages programmed in situ by LNP‐delivered IL‐6/4 fusion and LL37 mRNAs simultaneously dampen cytokine storm, promote M2‐like repair, and enhance direct bacterial killing in sepsis. This combinatorial strategy restores T cell and macrophage function, lowers organ bacterial burden, and improves survival, highlighting a precision, host ...

Removal of Paralytic Shellfish Toxins by Probiotic Lactic Acid Bacteria

open access: yesToxins, 2014
Paralytic shellfish toxins (PSTs) are non-protein neurotoxins produced by saltwater dinoflagellates and freshwater cyanobacteria. The ability of Lactobacillus rhamnosus strains GG and LC-705 (in viable and non-viable forms) to remove PSTs (saxitoxin (STX)
