PERFORMANCE OF THE GAIT IN INDIVIDUALS WITH HTLV-1: SYSTEMATIC REVIEW

open access: yesRevista Pesquisa em Fisioterapia, 2017
HTLV-1 is frequently associated with myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP), which in turn brings several functional alterations to the individual, including changes in gait.

Balancing the robustness and predictive performance of biomarkers. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2013
Recent studies have highlighted the importance of assessing the robustness of putative biomarkers identified from experimental data. This has given rise to the concept of stable biomarkers, which are ones that are consistently identified regardless of ...

Tropical spastic paraparesis.

open access: yesFolia neuropathologica, 2002
Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) is the cause of endemic tropical spastic paraparesis (TSP) or HTLV-I-associated myelopathy (HAM). Because TSP/HAM is not a fatal disease, the neuropathology of this disease, albeit relatively well understood, is based on the examination of just a few incidental cases.

Inhibitors of Tax1‐PDZ Interactions Block HTLV‐1 Viral Transmission by Changing EV Composition

open access: yesJournal of Extracellular Vesicles, Volume 14, Issue 8, August 2025.
ABSTRACT Extracellular vesicles (EVs) are known to facilitate infection by enveloped RNA viruses including the Human T‐cell leukemia virus type‐1 (HTLV‐1). HTLV‐1‐encoded proteins, like the transactivator and oncoprotein Tax‐1, are loaded into EVs but their precise impact on EV cargos is not yet known.

HTLV-1: Regulating the Balance Between Proviral Latency and Reactivation [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
HTLV-1 plus-strand transcription begins with the production of doubly-spliced tax/rex transcripts, the levels of which are usually undetectable in freshly isolated peripheral blood mononuclear cells (PBMCs) from HTLV-1-infected individuals.

Danazol a new perspective in the treatment of htlv-l associated myelopathy (preliminary report)

open access: yesArquivos de Neuro-Psiquiatria, 1992
We investigated the efficacy of danazol treatment in eight patients with HTLV-l associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP). Treatment with danazol yielded clinical improvement of urinary control and gait disturbances in 7 out of the 8 ...

The Relevance of HTLV-1-associated Myelopathy/Tropical Spastic Paraparesis in Iran: A Review Study [PDF]

open access: yesReviews in Clinical Medicine, 2019
Human T-cell lymphotropic virus type I (HTLV-I) is a retrovirus, which is the causative agent of adult T-cell leukaemia (ATL) and HTLV-I-associated myelopathy/tropical spastic paraparesis (HAM/TSP).

HTLV‐1 infection altered expression of CCR2, CXCR2, eNOS genes, and oxidative stress in aorta and heart of male mice

open access: yesPhysiological Reports, Volume 13, Issue 11, June 2025.
Abstract Viral infections are associated with the disruption of oxidative stress and the progression of inflammatory mechanisms that play pivotal roles in cardiovascular diseases. In the present study, several inflammatory and oxidative stress markers were examined in HTLV‐1‐infected male BALB/c mice.

Balance assessment in HTLV-1 associated myelopathy or tropical spastic paraparesis

open access: yesRevista da Sociedade Brasileira de Medicina Tropical, 2020
INTRODUCTION: A good rating of the device in people with HTLV-1 in this population is essential for accuracy in prescribing data (walking). Thus, this study aimed to analyze the counterpart assessment methods that are best suited to patients with human T-
