Integrative analysis of mRNA and LncRNA profiles from small extracellular vesicles identifies apoptosis-related biomarkers in patients with Parkinson’s disease after rehabilitation

open access: yesBMC Neurology
Background Increasing evidence has highlighted the crucial role of long noncoding RNAs (lncRNAs) and messenger RNAs (mRNAs) in the development and progression of Parkinson’s disease (PD). Investigating which lncRNA and mRNA biomarkers are associated with

Adaptaquin is selectively toxic to glioma stem cells through disruption of iron and cholesterol metabolism

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Adaptaquin selectively kills glioma stem cells while sparing differentiated brain cells. Transcriptomic and proteomic analyses show Adaptaquin disrupts iron and cholesterol homeostasis, with iron chelation amplifying cytotoxicity via cholesterol depletion, mitochondrial dysfunction, and elevated reactive oxygen species.

Role of proinflammatory biomarkers in Parkinson's disease with non-motor symptoms: A systematic review and meta-analysis [PDF]

open access: yesRomanian Journal of Neurology
Background and objectives. Neuroinflammation, characterized by microglial activation and elevated proinflammatory cytokines, plays a crucial role in Parkinson's disease (PD) pathogenesis and is linked to neurodegeneration and non-motor symptoms.

Drug-induced Parkinson's disease modulates protein kinase A and Olfactory Marker Protein in the mouse olfactory bulb [PDF]

open access: yes, 2017
Background Olfaction is often affected in parkinsonian patients, but dopaminergic cells in the olfactory bulb are not affected by some Parkinson-inducing drugs.

The role of lipid metabolism in neuronal senescence

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Disrupted lipid metabolism, through alterations in lipid species or lipid droplet accumulation, can drive neuronal senescence. However, lipid dyshomeostasis can also occur alongside neuronal senescence, further amplifying tissue damage. Delineating how lipid‐induced senescence emerges in neurons and glial cells, and how it contributes to ageing and ...

The Effect of Ethanolic The effect of ethanolic extract of Saffron (Crocus sativus L.) on improving the spatial memory parameters in the experimental models of Parkinson disease in male rats [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Advanced Biomedical Sciences, 2015
Background & Objective: The axial role of the oxidative stress in the pathophysiology of Parkinson disease has been identified. On the other hand, the learning and memory impairment in Parkinson disease has a distinguished outlook.

Occupational history of night shift work and Parkinson’s disease in Denmark

open access: yesScandinavian Journal of Work, Environment & Health, 2015
OBJECTIVES: We investigated whether working night shifts was associated with the risk of Parkinson’s disease (PD). METHODS: Between January 2008 and December 2010, we recruited 1808 patients with a confirmed diagnosis of idiopathic PD from Denmark and ...

Constitutively active STING causes neuroinflammation and degeneration of dopaminergic neurons in mice

open access: yeseLife, 2022
Stimulator of interferon genes (STING) is activated after detection of cytoplasmic dsDNA by cGAS (cyclic GMP-AMP synthase) as part of the innate immunity defence against viral pathogens. STING binds TANK-binding kinase 1 (TBK1).
