Summary In the last few years, next‐generation sequencing techniques have started to be used to identify new viruses infecting plants. This has allowed to rapidly increase our knowledge on viruses other than those causing symptoms in economically important crops. Here we used this approach to identify a virus infecting Physcomitrium patens that has the

Viral diversity in Phytophthora cactorum population infecting strawberry
Summary Eighty‐eight Phytophthora cactorum strains isolated from crown or leather rot of strawberry in 1971–2019 were screened for viruses using RNA‐seq and RT‐PCR. Remarkably, all but one isolate were virus‐infected, most of them harbouring more than one virus of different genera or species.

Molecular characterization of a novel partitivirus isolated from Rhizoctonia solani
Rhizoctonia solani is a widely distributed plant pathogen that can damage many crops. Here, we identified a novel mycovirus tentatively named Rhizoctonia solani partitivirus 433 (RsPV433) from an R.

Abstract Plants are colonized by diverse fungal and viral communities that influence their growth and survival as well as ecosystem functioning. Viruses interact with both plants and the fungi they host. Our understanding of plant–fungi–virus interactions is very limited, especially in wild plants.

Heterobasidion species are highly destructive basidiomycetous conifer pathogens of the Boreal forest region. Earlier studies have revealed dsRNA virus infections of families Curvulaviridae and Partitiviridae in Heterobasidion strains, and small RNA deep ...

Blueberry latent virus: An amalgam of the Partitiviridae and Totiviridae
A new, symptomless virus was identified in blueberry. The dsRNA genome of the virus, provisionally named Blueberry latent virus (BBLV), codes for two putative proteins, one without any similarities to virus proteins and an RNA-dependent RNA polymerase. More than 35 isolates of the virus from different cultivars and geographic regions were partially or ...
