CHREST+: A simulation of how humans learn to solve problems using diagrams. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2000
This paper describes the underlying principles of a computer model, CHREST+, which learns to solve problems using diagrammatic representations. Although earlier work has determined that experts store domain-specific information within schemata, no ...

Enhanced analysis of real-time PCR data by using a variable efficiency model : FPK-PCR [PDF]

open access: yes, 2011
Current methodology in real-time Polymerase chain reaction (PCR) analysis performs well provided PCR efficiency remains constant over reactions. Yet, small changes in efficiency can lead to large quantification errors. Particularly in biological samples,

The neural crest‐associated gene ERRFI1 is involved in melanoma progression and resistance toward targeted therapy

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
ERRFI1, a neural crest (NC)‐associated gene, was upregulated in melanoma and negatively correlated with the expression of melanocytic differentiation markers and the susceptibility of melanoma cells toward BRAF inhibitors (BRAFi). Knocking down ERRFI1 significantly increased the sensitivity of melanoma cells to BRAFi.

Asymptomatic Cryptosporidium infections in ewes and lambs are a source of environmental contamination with zoonotic genotypes of Cryptosporidium parvum

open access: yesParasite, 2020
Protozoan parasites of the Cryptosporidium genus cause severe cryptosporidiosis in newborn lambs. However, asymptomatic infections also occur frequently in lambs and ewes. In sheep, the most commonly detected Cryptosporidium species are C.

First molecular evidence for mycoplasma haemocanis and candidatus mycoplasma haematoparvum in asymptomatic shelter dogs in kyrgyzstan [PDF]

open access: yesKafkas Universitesi Veteriner Fakültesi Dergisi, 2019
Mycoplasma haemocanis (Mhc) and Candidatus Mycoplasma haematoparvum (CMhp) have been investigated using species specific PCR and sequencing in 170 dogs from Kyrgyzstan.

Power Counting Regime of Chiral Effective Field Theory and Beyond [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Chiral effective field theory complements numerical simulations of quantum chromodynamics (QCD) on a space-time lattice. It provides a model-independent formalism for connecting lattice simulation results at finite volume and a variety of quark masses to

In vitro models of cancer‐associated fibroblast heterogeneity uncover subtype‐specific effects of CRISPR perturbations

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Development of therapies targeting cancer‐associated fibroblasts (CAFs) necessitates preclinical model systems that faithfully represent CAF–tumor biology. We established an in vitro coculture system of patient‐derived pancreatic CAFs and tumor cell lines and demonstrated its recapitulation of primary CAF–tumor biology with single‐cell transcriptomics ...

Retrospective study on equine viral abortions in Poland between 1999 and 2022

open access: yesJournal of Veterinary Research, 2023
Loss of pregnancy in mares is a major cause of economic and emotional impact for horse breeders. It can have many different infectious and noninfectious causes.

The CHREST model of active perception and its role in problem solving [PDF]

open access: yes, 2001
We discuss the relation of TEC to a computational model of expert perception, CHREST, based on the chunking theory. TEC’s status as a verbal theory leaves several questions unanswerable, such as the precise nature of internal representations used, or ...

Harbin: a quantitation PCR analysis tool [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Objectives: To enable analysis and comparisons of different relative quantitation experiments, a web-browser application called Harbin was created that uses a quantile-based scoring system for the comparison of samples at different time points and ...
