Efficient illumination independent appearance-based face tracking [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
One of the major challenges that visual tracking algorithms face nowadays is being able to cope with changes in the appearance of the target during tracking. Linear subspace models have been extensively studied and are possibly the most popular way of

Tau acetylation at K331 has limited impact on tau pathology in vivo

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We mapped tau post‐translational modifications in humanized MAPT knock‐in mice and in amyloid‐bearing double knock‐in mice. Acetylation within the repeat domain, particularly around K331, showed modest increases under amyloid pathology. To test functional relevance, we generated MAPTK331Q knock‐in mice.

Early detection of nosocomial pathogens in air and surfaces using an innovative genetic approach for surveillance in healthcare settings

open access: yesAntimicrobial Resistance and Infection Control
Background Healthcare-associated infections remain a major cause of morbidity, mortality, and financial burden worldwide, further exacerbated by the emergence of antimicrobial resistance. Environmental reservoirs of pathogens, including air and surfaces,

Identification of Listeria Isolates by Using a Pragmatic Multilocus Phylogenetic Analysis

open access: yesMicrobiology Research
Species identification of Listeria isolates remained a tedious process still based on culturing methods that, in recent years, have led to the description of many species that are not even part of the genus Listeria.

MOLECULAR ANALYSIS OF FIELD INFECTIOUS BURSAL DISEASE VIRUS ISOLATED IN SULAIMANI/IRAQ [PDF]

open access: yesAssiut Veterinary Medical Journal
Infectious Bursal Disease (IBD) is also known as Gumboro disease, where the illness was initially identified. It is an extremely transmissible immune suppressor virus that has a significant financial impact on the poultry sector around the world ...

An isoform of 14‐3‐3 protein regulates transbilayer lipid movement at the plasma membrane

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Loss of 14‐3‐3ζ in CHO cells confers resistance to exogenous phosphatidylserine (PS) and impairs endocytosis‐independent inward flip‐flop of fluorescent PS at the plasma membrane. RNAi‐mediated knockdown reproduces this defect, while no additive effect is seen in ATP11C‐deficient cells.

Learning perceptual schemas to avoid the utility problem [PDF]

open access: yes, 1999
This paper describes principles for representing and organising planning knowledge in a machine learning architecture. One of the difficulties with learning about tasks requiring planning is the utility problem: as more knowledge is acquired by the ...

Westward propagating twin gyres in the equatorial Indian Ocean [PDF]

open access: yes, 2004
A reduced-gravity (11/2-layer) model forced by daily climatological winds simulates twin, anticyclonic gyres, which propagate westward on either side of the equator.

The ubiquitin ligase RNF115 is required for the clearance of damaged lysosomes

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Upon lysosomal rupture, an E3 ubiquitin ligase RNF115 translocates from the cytosol to the damaged lysosomal membrane. Moreover, RNF115 depletion impairs the clearance of damaged lysosomes, identifying it as a key regulator of lysosomal quality control.
