Apple Volatiles Synergize the Response of Codling Moth to Pear Ester
Journal of Chemical Ecology, 2013Codling moth, Cydia pomonella L. (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae), is a major cosmopolitan pest of apple and other pome fruits. Ethyl (E,Z)-2,4-decadienoate (pear ester) has been identified as a host-derived kairomone for female and male codling moths.

Environmental Entomology, 2012
Codling moth, Cydia pomonella (L.), larvae cause severe internal feeding damage to apples, pears, and walnuts worldwide. Research has demonstrated that codling moth neonate first instar larvae are attracted to a pear-derived kairomone, ethyl (2E,4Z)-2,4-decadienoate, the pear ester (PE).

Jasmonate activated PuCBF5 to increasing ester accumulation in cold-stored ‘Nanguo’ pear fruit
Plant Physiology and Biochemistry'Nanguo' pear is a distinctive fruit from Liaoning Province and is highly appreciated by consumers. However, its aroma quality has been observed to diminish after cold storage. Methyl jasmonate (MeJA) is a plant hormone that can promote the esters accumulation in fruits while the exact molecular mechanisms still unclear.

The biological efficacy of pear ester on the activity of Granulosis virus for codling moth
Journal of Pest Science, 2007Ethyl (E,Z)-2,4-decadienoate (pear ester) is an adult and larval kairomonal attractant for Cydia pomonella (L.) (Lepidoptera: Tortricidae). The possibility of using a microencapsulated formulation of pear ester (DA-MEC, a.i. 5%, Trece Inc.) to interfere with the host location behaviour was evaluated.

Abstract ‘Nanguo’ pear are popular for their unique aroma ester. However, we found that the fragrance faded undergoing long term low temperature (LT) storage, and the aroma-weakening mechanism has not been well understood. To this end, the transcriptome of the fruit on 0 d and optimum tasting period (OTP) during shelf life at room temperature (RT ...

Plant Physiology
Abstract As major contributors to flavor in many fruit species, volatile esters are useful for investigating the regulation of the biosynthesis pathways of volatile aroma compounds in plants. Ethylene promotes the biosynthesis of volatile esters during fruit storage while accelerating fruit ripening; thus, the ethylene perception ...

Stereoselective Synthesis of Pear Ester
Chemistry of Natural Compounds, 2017A simple two-step synthesis of ethyl-(2E,4Z)-deca-2,4-dienoate based on Fe-catalyzed cross-coupling of ethyl-(2E,4Z)-5-chloropenta-2,4-dienoate, which was obtained via one-pot oxidation and olefination of readily available (2Z)-3-chloroprop-2-en-1-ol by n-pentylmagnesiumbromide, was developed.

Synthesis of ‘Pear Ester’. A novel synthesis of 2,4‐diolefinic aldehydes and esters
Helvetica Chimica Acta, 1973AbstractVinylogous epoxyaldehydes undergo stereospecific Wittig condensations in high yields. The resulting diolefinic epoxides are cleaved at the C(1)–C(2) single bond, when treated with periodic acid, to give the corresponding aldehydes. Direct transformation into the corresponding ethyl‐ester leads to an efficient synthesis of the ‘pear ester’.

A Stereoselective Synthesis of Pear Ester Via Arsenic Ylide
Synthetic Communications, 1989Abstract The paper describes a four-step synthesis of ethyl (2E, 4Z)-2, 4-decadienoate (pear ester) from propargyl alcohol with a 50% total yield. It also gives the synthesis of ethyl (2E, 4E)-2, 4-decadienoate. In both cases arsenic ylides were used to give the satisfactory results.

Volatile Esters of Bartlett Pear. III. a
Journal of Food Science, 1964SUMMARY Bartlett pear essence was separated by gas chromatography without losing its desirable aroma characteristics. This was done by room‐temperature on‐column injections, followed by a programmed temperature increase of the chromatographic column. Evidence is presented indicating that the methyl (or other short‐
