Cell wall target fragment discovery using a low‐cost, minimal fragment library

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
LoCoFrag100 is a fragment library made up of 100 different compounds. Similarity between the fragments is minimized and 10 different fragments are mixed into a single cocktail, which is soaked to protein crystals. These crystals are analysed by X‐ray crystallography, revealing the binding modes of the bound fragment ligands.

Characteristics of NH3–H2 Reducing Pellets

open access: yesMetals
The reduction of hematite with ammonia is a potentially environmentally friendly method of ironmaking. Previous studies on ammonia reduction of pellets typically involved samples weighing only 2.8 g and lacked detailed activation energy analysis for the ...

Cell density–dependent nuclear‐cytoplasmic shuttling of SETDB1 integrates with Hippo signaling to regulate YAP1‐mediated transcription

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
At low cell density, SETDB1 and YAP1 accumulate in the nucleus. As cell density increases, the Hippo pathway is gradually activated, and SETDB1 is associated with increased YAP1 phosphorylation. At high cell density, phosphorylated YAP1 is sequestered in the cytoplasm, while SETDB1 becomes polyubiquitinated and degraded by the ubiquitin–proteasome ...

Characterizing the salivary RNA landscape to identify potential diagnostic, prognostic, and follow‐up biomarkers for breast cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study explores salivary RNA for breast cancer (BC) diagnosis, prognosis, and follow‐up. High‐throughput RNA sequencing identified distinct salivary RNA signatures, including novel transcripts, that differentiate BC from healthy controls, characterize histological and molecular subtypes, and indicate lymph node involvement.

Investigating the cell of origin and novel molecular targets in Merkel cell carcinoma: a historic misnomer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This study indicates that Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) does not originate from Merkel cells, and identifies gene, protein & cellular expression of immune‐linked and neuroendocrine markers in primary and metastatic Merkel cell carcinoma (MCC) tumor samples, linked to Merkel cell polyomavirus (MCPyV) status, with enrichment of B‐cell and other immune cell

Docosahexaenoic Acid Included in Layer Feed as an Unextracted Aurantiochytrium limacinum Biomass Is Efficiently Transferred to Eggs When Provided in Mash or Pellet Form

open access: yesJournal of Applied Poultry Research, 2019
SUMMARY: Pelleting is commonly used in the production of poultry feed as it can reduce waste, kill pathogenic bacteria, and improve productivity. However, high temperatures used during production can negatively impact some feed ingredients.

Monitoring soil moisture from middle to high elevation in Switzerland: set-up and first results from the SOMOMOUNT network [PDF]

open access: yesHydrology and Earth System Sciences, 2017
Besides its important role in the energy and water balance at the soil–atmosphere interface, soil moisture can be a particular important factor in mountain environments since it influences the amount of freezing and thawing in the subsurface and can ...

Pellet fuelling with edge-localised modes controlled by external magnetic perturbations in MAST

open access: yes, 2014
The fuelling of plasmas by shallow frozen pellets with simultaneous mitigation of edge localised modes (ELM) by external magnetic perturbation is demonstrated on the MAST tokamak. Post-pellet particle loss is dominated by ELMs and inter-ELM gas fuelling.

Visual histological grading system for the evaluation of in vitro-generated neocartilage [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Here we present the development of a visual evaluation system for routine assessment of in vitro-engineered cartilaginous tissue. Neocartilage was produced by culturing human articular chondrocytes in pellet culture systems or in a scaffold-free ...
