Essential and toxic elements intake from botanical extracts: a probabilistic risk–benefit evaluation within the Italian dietary context

open access: yesJournal of the Science of Food and Agriculture, EarlyView.
Abstract BACKGROUND Botanical extracts are widely consumed for their claimed health benefits, yet their safety profile with respect to chronic consumption remains poorly characterized. Understanding the potential health risks associated with their inorganic content is a crucial issue for ensuring safe use, along with a characterization of the ...

Relationships between acoustic scattering layers and ocean stratification: An acoustic approach to estimate mixed layer depth

open access: yesLimnology and Oceanography: Methods, EarlyView.
Abstract Ocean stratification, measured as mixed layer depth (MLD), is an important feature that influences many processes in the ocean; for example, by mediating the fluxes of momentum, heat and crucially key gases such as CO2 and oxygen from the atmosphere into the water column and vice versa. The conventional methods to measure stratification (e.g.,

Disability and Employment: Reevaluating the Evidence in Light of Reporting Errors [PDF]

open access: yes
Measurement error in health and disability status has been widely accepted as a central problem for social science research. Long-standing debates about the prevalence of disability, the role of health in labor market outcomes, and the influence of ...

Phase‐Retrieved High‐Throughput Multi‐Channel Simultaneous Surface Plasmon Resonance Detection

open access: yesLaser &Photonics Reviews, EarlyView.
This work presents a new phase‐retrieval high‐throughput multi‐channel simultaneous SPR detection framework. By integrating an objective lens‐based coupling system with a rotation‐based ePIE (r‐ePIE) phase retrieval on the back focal planes, this framework significantly reduces the minimum required detection area to reveal localized information.

Inferring Disability Status from Corrupt Data [PDF]

open access: yes
In light of widespread concerns about the reliability of self-reported disability, we investigate what can be learned about the prevalence of work disability under various assumptions on the reporting error process.

Temperature Dependence of Paramagnetic Species in the Human Brain Tissue: An X‐Band EPR Study

open access: yesMagnetic Resonance in Medicine, EarlyView.
ABSTRACT Purpose Paramagnetic ions are distributed throughout the human brain. The increased accumulation of these metals, such as iron and copper, can induce cellular death and the development of neurological diseases. Electron Paramagnetic Resonance (EPR) is a spectroscopic technique capable of detecting these ions in a given biological sample ...
