The continuing significance of chiral agrochemicals

In the time frame 2018–2023, around 43% of the 35 chiral agrochemicals introduced to the market (herbicides, fungicides, insecticides, acaricides, and nematicides) contain one or more stereogenic centers in the molecule, and almost 69% of them have been marketed as racemic mixtures of enantiomers or stereoisomers.

Aphids pose a serious risk to horticultural crops. Current biocontrol strategies often fail due to the poor establishment of natural enemies when aphids are scarce. Ant–aphid mutualism: the influence of Tapinoma ibericum (Hymenoptera: Formicidae) on Aphis gossypii (Hemiptera: Aphidae) control by commercial and spontaneous natural enemies

The mutualism between Tapinoma ibericum ants and Aphis gossypii disrupts the biological control exerted by Aphidius colemani in greenhouse peppers. Ant exclusion increased parasitism and the presence of most natural enemies, although Aphidoletes aphidimyza was more abundant with ants.
