Pepsinogens and gastrointestinal symptoms in mountain marathon runners

open access: yes, 1996
Although there are various descriptive reports concerning exercise-induced gastrointestinal distress, the role of gastrointestinal hormones and/or enzymes is not definitively established.

Carbamylation of Pepsinogen and Pepsin

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 1968
Abstract 1. Potassium cyanate, a reagent that carbamylates proteins, reacts both with pepsinogen and pepsin. 2. When allowed to react with pepsinogen, nine of the 10 e-NH2 groups of the lysine residues are carbamylated and homocitrulline is formed. In addition, reaction occurs with 4 tyrosine residues but not with the α-NH2-terminal leucine.

Correlation between the Serum Pepsinogen I Level and the Symptom Degree in Proton Pump Inhibitor-Users Administered with a Probiotic

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2014
In patients with functional upper gastrointestinal disorders such as gastroesophageal reflux disease and functional dyspepsia, the presence of symptoms is thought to occur in the absence of any organic diseases and the mechanisms behind this remain ...

Diagnostic Accuracy of Serum Antibody, Urine Antibody, and Stool Antigen Tests for Helicobacter pylori in Japan: A Systematic Review and Meta‐Analysis

open access: yesHelicobacter, Volume 31, Issue 4, July/August 2026.
ABSTRACT Background Non‐invasive Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) tests are widely used in clinical practice in Japan; however, their diagnostic accuracy may vary with the composition of the target population, and no systematic review has synthesized their performance specifically in Japanese populations.

Five‐Year Unified Risk Prediction Model for Gastric and Esophageal Cancer Based on Nationwide Health Check‐Up Data in Japan: J‐GESS Score

open access: yesJournal of Gastroenterology and Hepatology, Volume 41, Issue 7, Page 2073-2081, July 2026.
ABSTRACT Background and Aim In Japan, gastric cancer (GC) and esophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC) account for nearly all fatal upper gastrointestinal malignancies. A unified model that simultaneously predicts the incidence of these two cancers could help optimize endoscopic screening and postindex surveillance strategies.

Quantification of serum levels of pepsinogens and gastrin to assess eradication of Helicobacter pylori.

open access: yes, 2011
BACKGROUND & AIMS: We investigated whether serum levels of pepsinogen (sPG)I and sPGII, the ratio of sPGI to sPGII, or serum levels of gastrin-17 (sG17), can be used to assess eradication of Helicobacter Pylori 8 weeks after treatment. METHODS: We

Exploring the High‐Risk Factors of Gastric “Inflammatory Cancer Transformation” Based on Inflammatory Immune Response: Construction of RHPI Complicated With CAG Risk Prediction Model

open access: yesCancer Medicine, Volume 15, Issue 6, June 2026.
ABSTRACT Objective To investigate risk factors for refractory Helicobacter pylori infection (RHPI) complicated by chronic atrophic gastritis (CAG) and to develop a risk prediction model for early identification of high‐risk patients. Methods A retrospective cohort study enrolled 367 RHPI patients from January 2015 to December 2024.

Clinical significance of urinary SPP1 as a potential new diagnostic marker for oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma

open access: yesClinical and Translational Discovery, Volume 6, Issue 3, June 2026.
In this study, we investigate the potential of urinary secreted phosphoprotein 1 (SPP1) levels as a noninvasive diagnostic biomarker for oesophageal squamous cell carcinoma (ESCC). Our study suggests that urinary SPP1 may serve as a novel biomarker for the detection of ESCC. Abstract Background Urinary proteins could be useful as noninvasive biomarkers

Advanced Gastric Cancer Presenting as a Giant Subepithelial Lesion: A Case Report

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
A giant subepithelial lesion. ABSTRACT Gastric cancer may occasionally present with a subepithelial lesion‐like appearance. When a gastric gastrointestinal stromal tumor (GIST) is suspected preoperatively without definitive pathological confirmation, intraoperative frozen section analysis is recommended to prevent inappropriate surgical intervention.

Pernicious Anemia and Helicobacter pylori Infection: What a Hematologist Needs to Know?

open access: yesClinical Case Reports, Volume 14, Issue 5, May 2026.
Helicobacter pylori infection and the possible underlying mechanism of parietal cell damage, and progression to pernicious anemia. ABSTRACT This case report emphasizes the importance of early detection and prompt treatment of Helicobacter pylori (H. pylori) as a reversible cause of autoimmune gastritis and its associated vitamin B‐12 deficiency.
