Smaller is better: nanobodies meet NMR

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Nanobodies are single‐domain antigen‐binding fragments derived from camelid heavy chain antibodies. Their small size, high stability, and exceptional specificity make nanobodies uniquely useful probes for NMR studies of protein dynamics, transient conformational states, and protein–protein interactions.

Liposaccharides: Utilisation for peptide delivery and for enhancing synthetic peptide immunogenicity.

open access: yes, 2001
A user friendly, reliable delivery system is essential for the success of peptide-based drugs. Currently, there are many peptides and proteins that have the potential to be developed as new medicines.

Microfluidic Production and Characterisation of Cyclosporine A-Loaded Lipid–Chitosan Hybrid Nanoparticles as Candidate Pulmonary Drug Delivery Systems

open access: yesPharmaceutics
Backgorund/Objectives: Respiratory diseases represent a substantial global health burden and require effective localised pulmonary delivery strategies, particularly for poorly water-soluble therapeutic molecules. Nanoparticle-based drug delivery systems,

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Cell-Penetrating Peptides—Mechanisms of Cellular Uptake and Generation of Delivery Systems

open access: yesPharmaceuticals, 2010
The successful clinical application of nucleic acid-based therapeutic strategies has been limited by the poor delivery efficiency achieved by existing vectors. The development of alternative delivery systems for improved biological activity is, therefore,

Oncogenic DMTF1β promotes cancer cell motility by regulating autophagy through ULK1 stabilization

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
In the current study, we demonstrate that the oncogene DMTF1β regulates ULK1 stability by reducing its proteasomal degradation in cancer cells. This stabilization enables ULK1 to induce autophagy, which in turn facilitates cancer cell migration. Consequently, reduced DMTF1β levels lead to decreased autophagy and impaired cancer cell migration.

Stabilization of peptide vesicles by introducing inter-peptide disulfide bonds. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2009
PURPOSE: Previously, we have shown that the amphiphilic oligopeptide SA2 (Ac-Ala-Ala-Val-Val-Leu-Leu-Leu-Trp-Glu-Glu-COOH) spontaneously self-assemble into nano-sized vesicles in aqueous environment.

Nanoparticle-Delivered HIV Peptides to Dendritic Cells a Promising Approach to Generate a Therapeutic Vaccine

open access: yesPharmaceutics, 2020
Finding a functional cure for HIV-1 infection will markedly decrease the social and economic burden of this disease. In this work, we have taken advantage of the antigen presenting cell role of human dendritic cells (DCs) to try to induce an immune ...

Targeting transcription factors associated with hemoglobinopathies: Lessons from successful interventions and implications for cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
This review summarizes the transcription factors, repressive chromatin‐modifying complexes, and epigenetic mechanisms that control fetal hemoglobin repression. Notably, many regulators of γ‐globin silencing also function in transcriptional and epigenetic networks that drive cancer, highlighting opportunities to translate advances in hemoglobinopathy ...
