MASS SPECTROMETRIC SEQUENCING OF PEPTIDES AND PROTEINS [PDF]

open access: yesPure and Applied Chemistry, 1978
Mass spectrometry had been demonstrated to be a useful technique for the determination of the amino acid sequence in oligopeptides. The extension to the sequencing of polypeptides and proteins is a complex problem involving chemical degradation and conversion techniques, separations, collection of the mass spectral information and the interpretation ...

Protein O‐glycosylation in the Bacteroidota phylum

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Species of the Bacteroidota phylum exhibit a unique O‐glycosylation system. It modifies noncytoplasmic proteins on a specific amino acid motif with a shared glycan core but a species‐specific outer glycan. A locus of multiple glycosyltransferases responsible for the synthesis of the outer glycan has been identified.

Hepcidin, a Urinary Antimicrobial Peptide Synthesized in the Liver*

open access: yesJournal of Biological Chemistry, 2001
Cysteine-rich antimicrobial peptides are abundant in animal and plant tissues involved in host defense. In insects, most are synthesized in the fat body, an organ analogous to the liver of vertebrates.

Multiple sequence comparison: A peptide matching approach

open access: yesTheoretical Computer Science, 1995
AbstractWe present in this paper a peptide matching approach to the multiple comparison of a set of protein sequences. This approach consists in looking for all the words that are common to q of these sequences, where q is a parameter. The comparison between words is done by using as reference an object called a model.

Neurotoxic amyloid β‐peptide and tau produce cytokine‐like effects on PMCA in glioblastoma cell lines, enhancing its activity and isoforms expression

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Two biomarkers of Alzheimer's disease, amyloid β‐peptide (Aβ) and tau, induce the transformation of U‐251 and other glioblastoma cell lines into neurotoxic A1‐like reactive astrocytes. This transformation is produced by cytokines and is followed by upregulation of PMCA activity and isoform expression, and is closely associated with inflammation, as ...

The role of circular RNAs in regulating cytokine signaling in cancer

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Cytokines present in the tumor microenvironment fuel cancer development. Aberrant expression of circRNAs contributes to cancer progression. Cytokines are involved in regulating circRNA biogenesis. Furthermore, aberrantly expressed circRNAs regulate the expression of ligands, receptors, and downstream effectors involved in cytokine signaling to promote ...
