How ricin and shiga toxin reach the cytosol of target cells : retrotranslocation from the endoplasmic reticulum [PDF]
A number of protein toxins bind at the surface of mammalian cells and after endocytosis traffic to the endoplasmic reticulum, where the toxic A chains are liberated from the holotoxin.

Dormant cancer cells can hide in distant organs for years, evading treatment and the immune system. This review highlights how signals from the surrounding tissue and immune environment keep these cells inactive or trigger their reawakening. Understanding these mechanisms may help develop therapies to eliminate or control dormant cells and prevent ...

Peptide Sodium Channels Modulator Mu-Agatoxin-Aa1a Prevents Ischemia-Reperfusion Injury of Cells
Ischemia-reperfusion injury (IRI) is an irreversible functional and structural injury. Restoration of normal oxygen concentration exacerbates the emergence and development of deadly cells.

High-threshold mechanosensitive ion channels blocked by a novel conopeptide mediate pressure-evoked pain [PDF]
Little is known about the molecular basis of somatosensory mechanotransduction in mammals. We screened a library of peptide toxins for effects on mechanically activated currents in cultured dorsal root ganglion neurons.

BCL9 and BCL9L drive bladder cancer progression by enhancing β‐catenin signaling, promoting proliferation, migration, invasion, and organoid growth. Genetic depletion of BCL9(L) suppresses malignant phenotypes, while pharmacological disruption of the β‐catenin/BCL9(L) complex with ZW4864 inhibits canonical Wnt signaling and tumor‐associated cellular ...

Data_Sheet_7_A toxin-based approach to neuropeptide and peptide hormone discovery.FASTA
Peptide hormones and neuropeptides form a diverse class of bioactive secreted molecules that control essential processes in animals. Despite breakthroughs in peptide discovery, many signaling peptides remain undiscovered.

This study explores the feasibility of expressing the antitumoral protein Amblyomin‐X through a suicide gene therapy approach and investigates its intracellular fate after gene delivery. Although the gene is efficiently expressed, melanoma cells rapidly degrade the Amblyomin‐X protein via proteasome activity.

Introduction of aldehyde groups into protein conjugates enhanced the immune response to a coupled peptide without the use of strong adjuvants. Synthetic peptides representing the N-terminal (residues 1–16) and internal (residues 53–65) epitopes of toxic ...
