Parkinson's Disease and Cancer: Mechanistic Insights and Therapeutic Opportunities From Cancer Neuroscience

open access: yesMedComm – Oncology, Volume 4, Issue 4, December 2025.
Parkinson's disease (PD) and glioma are neurological disorders with distinct and even opposing mechanisms: α‐synuclein deposition and neuronal loss in PD versus glial cell malignancy in glioma. Despite these differences, their contrasting pathologies highlight multiple therapeutic targets.

Molecular Basis for the Ribosome Functioning as an L-Tryptophan Sensor

open access: yesCell Reports, 2014
Elevated levels of the free amino acid L-tryptophan (L-Trp) trigger expression of the tryptophanase tnaCAB operon in E. coli. Activation depends on tryptophan-dependent ribosomal stalling during translation of the upstream TnaC peptide.

Genetic dissection of the root system architecture QTLome and its relationship with early shoot development, breeding and adaptation in durum wheat

open access: yesThe Plant Genome, Volume 18, Issue 4, December 2025.
Abstract Root system architecture (RSA), shoot architecture, and shoot‐to‐root biomass allocation are critical for optimizing crop water and nutrient capture and ultimately grain yield. Nevertheless, only a few studies adequately dissected the genetic basis of RSA and its relationship to shoot development.

Antibiotic resistance evolved via inactivation of a ribosomal RNA methylating enzyme. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Modifications of the bacterial ribosome regulate the function of the ribosome and modulate its susceptibility to antibiotics. By modifying a highly conserved adenosine A2503 in 23S rRNA, methylating enzyme Cfr confers resistance to a range of ribosome ...

Acquisition of a natural resistance gene renders a clinical strain of methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus resistant to the synthetic antibiotic linezolid. [PDF]

open access: yes, 2007
Linezolid, which targets the ribosome, is a new synthetic antibiotic that is used for treatment of infections caused by Gram-positive pathogens. Clinical resistance to linezolid, so far, has been developing only slowly and has involved exclusively target

The Influence of Lipopolysaccharide O‐Antigen Chain Length on Biofilm Formation Capacity and Outer Membrane Proteome Shape of Salmonella Enteritidis

open access: yesEnvironmental Microbiology Reports, Volume 17, Issue 6, December 2025.
Shortening of the LPS O‐antigen part is related to decreased biofilm biomass formation, which also depends on the composition of the culture medium. Physicochemical properties of bacterial cells changed with the shortening of the O‐antigen, promoting bacterial aggregation, hydrodynamic size, zeta potential, and hydrophobicity.

RNA aptamers to the peptidyl transferase inhibitor chloramphenicol

open access: yesChemistry & Biology, 1997
The problem of how macromolecules adopt specific shapes to recognize small molecules in their environment is readily addressed through in vitro selections (the SELEX protocol). RNA-antibiotic interactions are particularly attractive systems for study because they provide an opportunity to expand our understanding of molecular recognition by RNA and to ...

miR‐140‐5p Overexpression Contributes to Oxidative Stress and Mitochondrial Dysfunction in Hutchinson‐Gilford Progeria Syndrome Fibroblasts Through NRF2 Pathway

open access: yesAging Cell, Volume 24, Issue 12, December 2025.
This study identifies a novel molecular mechanism involving miR‐140‐5p that contributes to the pathogenesis of HGPS. By decreasing NRF2 expression, miR‐140‐5p overexpression results in downregulation of the NRF2/KEAP1/HO‐1 antioxidant pathway in HGPS fibroblasts, leading to increased oxidative stress and mitochondrial dysfunction, two hallmarks of ...
