Perilymph fistula: The iowa experience
The Laryngoscope, 1986AbstractNinety‐one patients with demonstrable perilymph fistulas presented with an amazing array of signs and symptoms ranging from unilateral tinnitus and aural fullness to sudden‐and‐profound hearing loss, roaring tinnitus, and whirling vertigo. Between 1977 and 1984, 214 exploratory tympanotomies for suspected perilymph fistula (PLF) were performed ...

Is there Consensus in Perilymph Fistula Management?
Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1990A perilymph fistula is an abnormal communication between the inner ear fluids and the middle ear space. This article identifies areas of agreement in perilymph fistula management based upon 167 questionnaire responses from active surgeons of the American Otological Society and the American Neurotological Society.

Perilymph Fistulas in Infants and Children
Otolaryngology–Head and Neck Surgery, 1983During the years 1975 through 1981 we performed exploratory tympanotomies on 33 infants and children (44 ears) to verify the presumptive diagnosis of perilymph fistula (PLF). A PLF was identified at the round window, oval window, or both in 29 (66%) of the 44 ears explored.

Bilateral perilymph fistula in an adult
The Journal of Laryngology & Otology, 1991Sudden hearing loss is a symptom caused by a variety of diseases, among them also a perilymph fistula. The occurrence of bilateral perilymph fistula is rare, and was reported only associated with head trauma. A case of a bilateral perilymph fistula, without head trauma in an adult construction worker is reported.

Persistent traumatic perilymph fistulas
The Laryngoscope, 1987AbstractThirty‐four ears have been explored to rule out perilymph fistulas resulting from ear trauma. Eight ears (24%) were identified with a fistula, often persisting months (average 7.5 months) after the precipitating injury. Repair of fistulas, even if done relatively late, markedly reduces vestibular symptoms and may improve low and middle ...

Perilymph fistula, an abnormal communication between the inner ear and the middle ear, is an enigmatic otologic disorder which may present with auditory or vestibular symptoms. It is typically located at the oval or round windows, but several other locations have been suggested. It may be congenital or spontaneous, or due to trauma or surgery. It often

Perilymph Fistulas: Clinical Criteria
Archives of Otolaryngology - Head and Neck Surgery, 1992A perilymph fistula may be defined as an abnormal opening between the inner ear and the external surface of the labyrinth capsule, which allows the escape of perilymph and causes specific disorders of hearing, balance, or both. Its diagnosis remains somewhat controversial.

Perilymph Fistulas Caused by Myringotomy
ORL, 2010Two cases of rupture of the round window membrane verified by operation are presented. Both cases arose in connection with myringotomy and were presumably caused by a violent force acting directly on the tympanic membrane and the ossicles. This would result in a strong movement of the stapes and an acute change in the perilymph pressure, thereby ...
