Effect of Boundary Constraints on the Nonlinear Flapping of Filaments Animated by Follower Forces

open access: yes, 2019
Elastically driven filaments subjected to animating compressive follower forces provide a synthetic way to mimic the oscillatory beating of active biological filaments such as eukaryotic cilia.

Spatio-temporal dynamics of an active, polar, viscoelastic ring

open access: yes, 2014
Constitutive equations for a one-dimensional, active, polar, viscoelastic liquid are derived by treating the strain field as a slow hydrodynamic variable.

Earthing effects on mitochondrial function: ATP production and ROS generation

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
In contrast to sham and naive controls, grounded mitochondria not only exhibit significantly enhanced energy production but also demonstrate a remarkable reduction in membrane potential and oxidative stress. This suggests a profound improvement in mitochondrial health, presenting a promising avenue for therapeutic interventions.

Low-frequency variability and heat transport in a low-order nonlinear coupled ocean-atmosphere model

open access: yes, 2015
We formulate and study a low-order nonlinear coupled ocean-atmosphere model with an emphasis on the impact of radiative and heat fluxes and of the frictional coupling between the two components.

Phenotypic plasticity in a novel set of EGFR tyrosine kinase inhibitor‐adapted non‐small cell lung cancer cell lines

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Phenotypic plasticity in a newly established set of EGFR inhibitor‐adapted NSCLC cell lines during adaptation and in established cell lines. Here, we introduce novel sublines of the EGFR‐mutant non‐small cell lung cancer (NSCLC) cell lines HCC827 and HCC4006 adapted to the EGFR kinase inhibitors gefitinib (HCC827rGEFI2μm, HCC4006rGEFI1μm), erlotinib ...

Biomechanical design of lightweight full contacted insole based on structural anisotropy bespoke [PDF]

open access: yesJournal of Intelligent Manufacturing and Special Equipment
Purpose – A biomechanical design method of lightweight full contacted insole based on structural anisotropy bespoke (SAB) is proposed, which can better redistribute the stress distribution of SAB designed personalized insole. Design/methodology/approach –

Damage in textile laminates of various inter-ply shift [PDF]

open access: yes, 2010
Deformation mechanisms and failure of textile laminates are strongly affected by inter-layer configurations – a mutual shift of the plies. To model it within a traditional framework, one must construct a representative volume element (RVE), which ...

Mechanical Properties of Graphene Nanowiggles

open access: yes, 2014
In this work we have investigated the mechanical properties and fracture patterns of some graphene nanowiggles (GNWs). Graphene nanoribbons are finite graphene segments with a large aspect ratio, while GNWs are nonaligned periodic repetitions of graphene

The cochaperone BAG3 promotes the stabilization of p53 under heat stress conditions

open access: yesFEBS Open Bio, EarlyView.
Under heat stress, BAG3 translocates to the nucleus and forms a complex with Hsp70 and p53, thereby promoting p53 stabilization and enhancing its transcriptional activity. These findings suggest that BAG3 functions as a cochaperone that supports p53‐mediated stress responses in cooperation with Hsp70.

Experimental and simulation investigation on thermal-vibratory stress relief process for 7075 aluminium alloy

open access: yesMaterials & Design, 2020
Residual stresses evidently affect the strength, fatigue property and machining deformation of the mechanical components. Therefore, stress relief processes are extensively applied in the manufacturing to enhance the mechanical properties of products. In
