Impairment of the Peripheral Nervous System in Creutzfeldt-Jakob Disease [PDF]
The clinical manifestations of Creutzfeldt-Jakob disease (CJD) primarily reflect involvement of the central nervous system. The coexistence of CJD with peripheral nervous system involvement has also been reported. To analyze peripheral neuron electrophysiologic changes and to compare these data with neuropathologic features of spinal motor neurons in ...

Value of Neurofilament Light Chain as a Biomarker in Peripheral Neuropathy [PDF]
Neurofilament light chain (NfL) has been identified as a biomarker of axonal injury in a variety of central nervous system diseases. The value of NfL as a biomarker in peripheral neuropathy has gained increasing attention.

Peripheral nervous system diseases and pregnancy
113 pregnant women with periferal nervous system diseases(PNSD) are examined. 84 of them had radiculoneuropathy: 48 - lumbosacral segment (LSS), 36 - cervicothoracal segment (CTS), 29 had single and multiple neuropathy (SMN). Almost half cases (49,6%) the symptoms of PNSD first appeared in 2nd trimester.

Peripherin is a biomarker of axonal damage in peripheral nervous system disease
Abstract Valid, responsive blood biomarkers specific to peripheral nerve damage would improve management of peripheral nervous system (PNS) diseases. Neurofilament light chain (NfL) is sensitive for detecting axonal pathology but is not specific to PNS damage, as it is expressed throughout the PNS and CNS.

Bidirectional crosstalk between the peripheral nervous system and lymphoid tissues/organs
The central nervous system (CNS) influences the immune system generally by regulating the systemic concentration of humoral substances (e.g., cortisol and epinephrine), whereas the peripheral nervous system (PNS) communicates specifically with the immune

Focus on 1,25-Dihydroxyvitamin D3 in the Peripheral Nervous System
In this review, we draw attention to the roles of calcitriol (1,25-dihydroxyvitamin D3) in the trophicity of the peripheral nervous system. Calcitriol has long been known to be crucial in phosphocalcium homeostasis. However, recent discoveries concerning
