Dietary Inositol Requirement of Periplaneta Americana (L.)1

Annals of the Entomological Society of America, 1960
Newly emerged nymphs were reared on diets containing 0 to 100 mg./kg. of meso-inositol. Observations of growth, maturation, and survival indicate that the minimal level lies between 40 and 80 mg./kg.

The electrical resistance of intact integument of Periplaneta americana (L.)

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology, 1968
Abstract 1. 1. Electrical d.c. resistance across live, intact integument of adult Periplaneta americana was measured using electrolyte contacts on the external surface. 2. 2. This technique involved little apparent injury and numerous measurements over a period of months could be performed on the same animals. 3. 3.

The excretory efficiency of the American cockroach, Periplaneta americana L.

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1959
Abstract The efficiency of the excretory system of the American cockroach was measured using a dye clearance test. Indigo carmine in aqueous solution was injected into the blood and the rate of its removal was checked by densitometric measurements of blood spots on filter paper strips.

Postembryonic development of the antennal lobes in Periplaneta americana L.

Cell and Tissue Research, 1981
The postembryonic development of the antennal lobes of Periplaneta americana L. was examined with light- and electron-microscopical methods. There is no difference in the number of glomeruli and neurons in the antennal lobes of larval and adult animals.

Photosensitivity in the terminal abdominal ganglion of Periplaneta americana (L.)

Journal of Insect Physiology, 1965
Abstract Abdominal photosensitivity in the terminal ganglion of P. americana (L.) was first indicated after studying the phototactic activity of cockroaches whose head capsules were painted with opaque enamel. Following dark adaptation, excised abdominal nerve tissue responded to brief light stimuli of varying duration.

The effect of parathion and DDT on cholinesterase activity in the roach (Periplaneta americana L.)

Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1952
Abstract 1. 1. In vitro, parathion does not inhibit cholinesterase from the central nervous system of Periplaneta americana L. or from cow erythrocytes. Injected parathion causes in Periplaneta a strong inhibition of cholinesterase. In the course of poisoning, the cholinesterase in the leg muscles, including the sensory organs and nerves, is ...

Function and modulation of the antennal heart of Periplaneta americana (L.).

Acta biologica Hungarica, 1993
The antennal heart of Periplaneta americana, a small accessory circulatory pump in the head, shows a rhythmicity with myogenic automatism. The muscle fibres extending throughout of the dilator muscle are electrically coupled. Among the peptides, proctolin causes a dose-dependent strong excitation, but allatostatin does not affect heart rhythm. However,
