Experimental measurements of the permeability of fibrous carbon at high temperature
A series of experiments was performed to obtain permeability data on FiberForm(R), a commercial carbon preform used for manufacturing thermal protection systems. A porous sample was placed in a quartz flow-tube heated by an isothermal furnace.

Aggressive prostate cancer is associated with pericyte dysfunction
Tumor‐produced TGF‐β drives pericyte dysfunction in prostate cancer. This dysfunction is characterized by downregulation of some canonical pericyte markers (i.e., DES, CSPG4, and ACTA2) while maintaining the expression of others (i.e., PDGFRB, NOTCH3, and RGS5).

Flow of pH-responsive microcapsules in porous media [PDF]
This article investigates the use micro-capsules, containing a gelling agent hydroxypropyl cellulose (HPC), to alter flow paths in porous media. The aim is to preferentially block-off high permeability regions, thereby diverting the flow into adjacent un-

Complex permeability of soft magnetic ferrite polyester resin composites at frequencies above 1 MHz [PDF]
Composite soft magnetic materials consist of magnetic particles in a non-magnetic matrix. The properties of such materials can be modelled using effective medium theory. Measurements have been made of the complex permeability of composites produced using

Tumour–host interactions in Drosophila: mechanisms in the tumour micro‐ and macroenvironment
This review examines how tumour–host crosstalk takes place at multiple levels of biological organisation, from local cell competition and immune crosstalk to organism‐wide metabolic and physiological collapse. Here, we integrate findings from Drosophila melanogaster studies that reveal conserved mechanisms through which tumours hijack host systems to ...

Temperature dependence of spin resonance in cobalt substituted NiZnCu ferrites
Cobalt substitutions were investigated in Ni0.4Zn0.4Cu0.2Fe2O4 ferrites, initial complex permeability was then measured from 1 MHz to 1 GHz. It appears that cobalt substitution led to a decrease in the permeability and an increase in the \mus\timesfr ...

Intestinal permeability – a new target for disease prevention and therapy
Data are accumulating that emphasize the important role of the intestinal barrier and intestinal permeability for health and disease. However, these terms are poorly defined, their assessment is a matter of debate, and their clinical significance is not ...

Interplay between RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures in gene regulation
Methodological advances in mapping transcriptome‐wide RNA‐protein interactions and RNA structures have started to uncover the potential of RNP conformations in gene regulation. Competing RNA–RNA, RNA‐protein and protein–protein interactions shape the compaction and function of RNPs throughout their lifetime and may provide novel therapeutic targets in ...

Ca2+-dependent changes in cyclic GMP levels are not correlated with opening and closing of the light-dependent permeability of toad photoreceptors. [PDF]
We have measured the levels of 3',5'-guanosine monophosphate (cyclic GMP) in isolated retinas from toad to investigate their correlation to the opening and closing of the light-dependent permeability of photoreceptors. When Ca2+-induced changes in cyclic

Modelling the permeability of polymers: a neural network approach [PDF]
In this short communication, the prediction of the permeability of carbon dioxide through different polymers using a neural network is studied. A neural network is a numeric-mathematical construction that can model complex non-linear relationships.
