Ultrasmall Pt Nanoclusters as Robust Peroxidase Mimics for Colorimetric Detection of Glucose in Human Serum.

open access: yesACS Applied Materials and Interfaces, 2017
In this work, a new type of ultrasmall Pt nanoclusters (Pt NCs) was prepared via a facile one-pot approach by using yeast extract as the reductant and stabilizer.

Functional ecology of ectomycorrhizal fungi [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Boreal forest ecosystems constitute a globally important carbon (C) sink, due to accumulation of complex organic matter, persistent to decomposition.

The structure of an orthorhombic crystal form of a 'forced reduced' thiol peroxidase reveals lattice formation aided by the presence of the affinity tag [PDF]

open access: yes, 2012
Thiol peroxidase (Tpx) is an atypical 2-Cys peroxiredoxin, which has been suggested to be important for cell survival and virulence in Gram-negative pathogens.

Inhibitor of DNA binding‐1 is a key regulator of cancer cell vasculogenic mimicry

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Elevated expression of transcriptional regulator inhibitor of DNA binding 1 (ID1) promoted cancer cell‐mediated vasculogenic mimicry (VM) through regulation of pro‐angiogenic and pro‐cancerous genes (e.g. VE‐cadherin (CDH5), TIE2, MMP9, DKK1). Higher ID1 expression also increased metastases to the lung and the liver.

Tryptophan in Horseradish Peroxidase. [PDF]

open access: yesActa Chemica Scandinavica, 1986
Fluorescent derivatives of horseradish peroxidase C were prepared by replacing protoheme by protoporphyrin or mesoporphyrin. Calculations according to Förster on energy transfer allowed the determination of the distances of greater than 2.2 nm between tryptophan and porphyrin (heme) and greater than 2 nm between tryptophan and substrate-binding site ...

Aberrant expression of nuclear prothymosin α contributes to epithelial‐mesenchymal transition in lung cancer

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Nuclear prothymosin α inhibits epithelial‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in lung cancer by increasing Smad7 acetylation and competing with Smad2 for binding to SNAI1, TWIST1, and ZEB1 promoters. In early‐stage cancer, ProT suppresses TGF‐β‐induced EMT, while its loss in the nucleus in late‐stage cancer leads to enhanced EMT and poor prognosis.

Study of Puccinia striiformis -related proteins in wheat using two-dimensional gel electrophoresis

open access: yesJournal of Crop Protection, 2020
Wheat is one of the strategic products and has rich nutritional value. Plant diseases are major limiting factors that reduce the yield and quality of wheat, and yellow rust Puccinia striiformis f. sp.

Aspergillus niger, a dominant phylloplane coloniser, influences the activity of defense enzymes in Solanum lycopersicum

open access: yesJournal of Plant Protection Research, 2019
Phylloplane microbes have been studied as strategic tools in management against plant pathogens. Non-pathogenic bacteria and fungi have been applied as crop protectants against various plant diseases.

Influence of hyperhomocysteinemia on the cellular redox state - Impact on homocysteine-induced endothelial dysfunction [PDF]

open access: yes, 2003
Hyperhomocysteinemia is an independent risk factor for the development of atherosclerosis. An increasing body of evidence has implicated oxidative stress as being contributory to homocysteines deleterious effects on the vasculature.

Determination of ADP/ATP translocase isoform ratios in malignancy and cellular senescence

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The individual functions of three isoforms exchanging ADP and ATP (ADP/ATP translocases; ANTs) on the mitochondrial membrane remain unclear. We developed a method for quantitatively differentiating highly similar human ANT1, ANT2, and ANT3 using parallel reaction monitoring. This method allowed us to assess changes in translocase levels during cellular
