Antioxidative and Oxidative Profiles in Plasma and Saliva in Dairy Cows during Pregnancy
Increased metabolism that occurs during pregnancy can result in oxidative stress which is harmful to cells and, consequently, for the proper functioning of the whole organism.

Responses of marine macroalgae to hydrogen-peroxide stress [PDF]
Abstract In this study, we determined the antioxidative potential of 15 marine macroalgae by measuring the photosynthetic efficiency under artificial oxidative stress after a 30-min exposure to a series of ascending H2O2 concentrations. Species exhibiting high maximum quantum yields (Fv/Fm values) were regarded as not susceptible towards H2O2 stress.

High density lipoproteins (HDL) have been reported to inhibit oxidation of low density lipoproteins (LDL) based in part on observations that oxidative changes occur more slowly in LDL-HDL mixtures than in LDL alone.

Total Thiols and MDA Levels in Patients with Acute Myocardial Infarction Before and After Reperfusion Therapy [PDF]
Background: Reactive oxygen species have been implicated in the pathogenesis of ischemic and reperfusion injury. In the current work we have measured malondialdehyde (MDA), total thiols, total CK, CK-MB and AST in ECG proven acute myocardial infarction ...

Structural Evidence for a Copper-Bound Carbonate Intermediate in the Peroxidase and Dismutase Activities of Superoxide Dismutase [PDF]
Copper-zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD) is of fundamental importance to our understanding of oxidative damage. Its primary function is catalysing the dismutation of superoxide to O2 and H2O2. SOD also reacts with H2O2, leading to the formation of a strong

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Beneficial role of melatonin in protecting mammalian gametes and embryos from oxidative damage
Mammalian gametes and embryos are particularly vulnerable to oxidative stress-induced damage, which is mainly caused by reactive oxygen species (ROS) originating from normal metabolism and/or the external environment.
