Spectroscopic Signature of Oxidized Oxygen States in Peroxides [PDF]

open access: yes, 2018
Recent debates on the oxygen redox behaviors in battery electrodes have triggered a pressing demand for the reliable detection and understanding of non-divalent oxygen states beyond conventional absorption spectroscopy.

An upstream open reading frame regulates expression of the mitochondrial protein Slm35 and mitophagy flux

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
This study reveals how the mitochondrial protein Slm35 is regulated in Saccharomyces cerevisiae. The authors identify stress‐responsive DNA elements and two upstream open reading frames (uORFs) in the 5′ untranslated region of SLM35. One uORF restricts translation, and its mutation increases Slm35 protein levels and mitophagy.

Effects of duration and temperature of heating of sunflower oil on ruminal linoleic acid biohydrogenation in vitro [PDF]

open access: yes, 2006
Feeding cows with heat treated oilseeds results in an increase of milk conjugated linoleic acids (CLA) content compared to feeding raw seeds. Heating leads to a lipid peroxidation, which could reduce the amount of fatty acids (FA) subjected to ...

Structural biology of ferritin nanocages

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
Ferritin is a conserved iron‐storage protein that sequesters iron as a ferric mineral core within a nanocage, protecting cells from oxidative damage and maintaining iron homeostasis. This review discusses ferritin biology, structure, and function, and highlights recent cryo‐EM studies revealing mechanisms of ferritinophagy, cellular iron uptake, and ...

Organic peroxides' gas-particle partitioning and rapid heterogeneous decomposition on secondary organic aerosol [PDF]

open access: yesAtmospheric Chemistry and Physics, 2016
Organic peroxides, important species in the atmosphere, promote secondary organic aerosol (SOA) aging, affect HOx radicals cycling, and cause adverse health effects. However, the formation, gas-particle partitioning, and evolution of organic peroxides

Thermochemiluminescent peroxide crystals [PDF]

open access: yesNature Communications, 2019
AbstractChemiluminescence, a process of transduction of energy stored within chemical bonds of ground-state reactants into light via high-energy excited intermediates, is known in solution, but has remained undetected in macroscopic crystalline solids. By detecting thermally induced chemiluminescence from centimeter-size crystals of an organic peroxide

The Role of Organic Peroxides in the Induction of Mutations [PDF]

open access: yes, 1949
The discovery by Wyss, Stone, and Clark' that bacteria grown on a substrate recently exposed to ultra-violet light are subject to high mutation rates shows clearly that some meta-stable chemical substance, probably of no great complexity, is an ...

Organ‐specific redox imbalances in spinal muscular atrophy mice are partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotides

open access: yesFEBS Letters, EarlyView.
We identified a systemic, progressive loss of protein S‐glutathionylation—detected by nonreducing western blotting—alongside dysregulation of glutathione‐cycle enzymes in both neuronal and peripheral tissues of Taiwanese SMA mice. These alterations were partially rescued by SMN antisense oligonucleotide therapy, revealing persistent redox imbalance as ...

MODIFICATION OF NUTRITIONAL VALUE DURING STORAGE OF INFANT FORMULAS ELABORATED WITH DIFFERENT INTACT AND PARTIALLY HYDROLYZED PROTEINS AND CARBOHYDRATESE

open access: yesVitae
Background: Human milk is considered the best source of nutrition for young infants. However, if mothers cannot provide adequate breast milk or if infants are premature or have a low birth weight, breast-feeding must often be replaced or complemented ...

Synthesis of spiroannulated and 3-arylated 1,2,4-trioxanes from mesitylol and methyl 4-hydroxytiglate by photooxygenation and peroxyacetalization

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2010
Cycloalkanones were utilized in the Lewis acid catalyzed peroxyacetalization of ß-hydroperoxy homoallylic alcohols (prepared by the ene reaction of the allylic alcohols mesitylol and methyl 4-hydroxytiglate, respectively, with singlet oxygen) to give ...
