Photodynamic Efficacy of Cercosporin in 3D Tumor Cell Cultures
The effects of cercosporin PDT on T47D breast adenocarcinoma as well as T98G and U87 human glioblastoma multiforme 3D cell cultures (spheroids). Abstract In the present work, we study the photodynamic action of cercosporin (cerco), a naturally occurring photosensitizer, on human cancer multicellular spheroids. U87 spheroids exhibit double the uptake of

Summary One of the most devastating fungal diseases of soybean in the southern USA is Cercospora leaf blight (CLB), which is caused mainly by Cercospora cf. flagellaris. Recent studies found that the fungal effector AVR4, originally identified in Cladosporium fulvum as a chitin‐binding protein, is highly conserved among other Cercospora species.

Perylenequinone Natural Products: Enantioselective Synthesis of the Oxidized Pentacyclic Core
An enantioselective approach to the perylenequinone core found in the mold perylenequinone natural products is outlined. Specifically, the first asymmetric syntheses of helical chiral perylenequinones absent any additional stereogenic centers are ...

Perylenequinone Natural Products: Evolution of the Total Synthesis of Cercosporin [PDF]
The evolution of the first total synthesis of perylenequinone cercosporin is described. The key features developed during these efforts include a biscuprate epoxide alkylation, installation of the methylidene acetal, palladium-catalyzed O-arylation, and C3,C3'-decarbonylation.

Effects of 5-Azacytidine on Growth and Hypocrellin Production of Shiraia bambusicola
Hypocrellins, fungal perylenequinones of Shiraia bambusicola are developed as important photodynamic therapy agents against cancers and viruses. Due to the limitation of the wild resources, the mycelium culture is a promising alternative for hypocrellin ...

The Rise of Stemphylium vesicarium: A Growing Threat to Pear Production in Europe
Brown spot of pear, caused by the fungus Stemphylium vesicarium, was reported in Italy in 1975 and only recently, due to climate change and pesticide restrictions, it became a major threat for European pear production. New knowledge on this pathogen can allow the advent of new and effective control strategies.
