Calculation of parameters (propagation constant, phase and group velocities) of a graded-index optical fiber

open access: yesКомпьютерная оптика
For a weakly guiding, single-mode, graded-index circular optical fiber, the general form of the dependence of the propagation constant on the waveguide parameter is obtained.

Phase Velocity and Attenuation of Longitudinal Shear Vibrations of Hollow Poroelastic Cylinders

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2014
The present paper is devoted to the study of phase velocity and attenuation of longitudinal shear vibrations of hollow poroelastic circular cylinders in the presence of dissipation.

Velocity Specificity in Early-Phase Sprint Training

open access: yesThe Journal of Strength and Conditioning Research, 2006
A comparison of resistance running, normal sprint running, and supramaximal running was performed. Nineteen young, generally well-trained subjects were divided into 3 training groups: resistance, normal, and supramaximal groups. Resistance and supramaximal training was done using a towing device, providing extra resistance or propulsion forces ...

PARABOLOIDAL REFLECTOR IN CHIRAL MEDIUM SUPPORTING SIMULTANEOUSLY POSITIVE PHASE VELOCITY AND NEGATIVE PHASE VELOCITY [PDF]

open access: yesProgress In Electromagnetics Research, 2009
High frequency fields of a cylindrical reflector are analyzed. Cylindrical reflector is placed in a homogeneous, reciprocal and isotropic chiral medium. It is assumed that chiral medium simultaneously supports modes with negative and positive phase velocity. Present work is an extension of a previous work.

Velocity of particles in Doubly Special Relativity

open access: yes, 2003
Doubly Special Relativity (DSR) is a class of theories of relativistic motion with two observer-independent scales. We investigate the velocity of particles in DSR, defining velocity as the Poisson bracket of position with the appropriate hamiltonian ...

Plecstatin inhibits hepatocellular carcinoma tumorigenesis and invasion through cytolinker plectin

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
The ruthenium‐based metallodrug plecstatin exerts its anticancer effect in hepatocellular carcinoma (HCC) primarily through selective targeting of plectin. By disrupting plectin‐mediated cytoskeletal organization, plecstatin inhibits anchorage‐dependent growth, cell polarization, and tumor cell dissemination.

Response of Corrugated Interface on Incident qSV-Wave in Monoclinic Elastic Half-Spaces

open access: yesInternational Journal of Applied Mechanics and Engineering, 2018
This paper is concerned with the problem of reflection and transmission of elastic waves due to an incident plane qSV-wave at a corrugated interface between two dissimilar monoclinic elastic half-spaces.

Non-linear conductivity of charge-density-wave systems [PDF]

open access: yes, 1997
We consider the problem of sliding motion of a charge-density-wave subject to static disorder within an elastic medium model. Starting with a field-theoretical formulation, which allows exact disorder averaging, we propose a self-consistent approximation

Peroxidasin enables melanoma immune escape by inhibiting natural killer cell cytotoxicity

open access: yesMolecular Oncology, EarlyView.
Peroxidasin (PXDN) is secreted by melanoma cells and binds the NK cell receptor NKG2D, thereby suppressing NK cell activation and cytotoxicity. PXDN depletion restores NKG2D signaling and enables effective NK cell–mediated melanoma killing. These findings identify PXDN as a previously unrecognized immune evasion factor and a potential target to improve

Influence of Flexoelectric Coupling and Interfacial Imperfection on Shear Horizontal Wave Propagation in a Piezoflexoelectric Layer over an Elastic Substrate

open access: yesMathematics
This study analytically investigates shear horizontal (SH) wave propagation in a layered structure consisting of a piezoflexoelectric (PFE) layer bonded to an elastic substrate, considering an imperfect interface.
