Acridities and phenanthridines
2020The acridine and phenanthridine chromophores both contain a central six-membered aromatic nitrogen heterocycle, with benzo rings fused onto each side. Although sulfonated and hydroxylated acridines have been synthesized, none are used as stains. The hydrophilic/lipophilic properties of the dyes under usage conditions are varied.

A Review on Synthetic Approaches of Phenanthridine
Letters in Organic Chemistry, 2022Abstract:The phenanthridine family is widely found in medicinal chemistry and material science because of the biological activity and its presence in a variety of significant natural products and synthetic dye stuffs. The phenanthridine has many clinical applications, for e.g., being used as an anticancer agent, possessing antibacterial, antiprotozoal,

Studies in the phenanthridine series—III
Tetrahedron, 1971Abstract Kinetic data are reported for the quaternisation of several alkylphenanthridines and for the reactions of some 6-chlorophenanthridines with various nucleophiles. The enhanced (and anomalous) reactivity shown by 6-chloro-1,10-dimethylphenanthridine is explained in terms of relief of steric strain. NMR data and p K a , values are reported.

The chemotherapy of phenanthridine compounds
Journal of the Society of Chemical Industry, 1947AbstractAn account is given of the preparation of various phenanthridine compounds and of their use in chemotherapy. Several of the compounds are curative of bovine trypanosomiasis, an African disease transmitted by the tsetse fly, and promise to be of great value in the African colonics.
