Reverting ontogeny: rapid phenotypic plasticity of colour vision in cichlid fish [PDF]
Phenotypic plasticity, particularly during development, allows organisms to rapidly adjust to different environmental conditions. Yet, it is often unclear whether the extent and direction of plastic changes are restricted by an individual's ontogeny ...

Can environmental conditions experienced in early life influence future generations? [PDF]
The consequences of early developmental conditions for performance in later life are now subjected to convergent interest from many different biological sub-disciplines.

COMP–PMEPA1 axis promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition in breast cancer cells
This study reveals that cartilage oligomeric matrix protein (COMP) promotes epithelial‐to‐mesenchymal transition (EMT) in breast cancer. We identify PMEPA1 (protein TMEPAI) as a novel COMP‐binding partner that mediates EMT via binding to the TSP domains of COMP, establishing the COMP–PMEPA1 axis as a key EMT driver in breast cancer.

Evidence for Snake Venom Plasticity in a Long-Term Study with Individual Captive Bothrops atrox
Variability in snake venom composition has been frequently reported and correlated to the adaptability of snakes to environmental conditions. Previous studies report plasticity for the venom phenotype.

Modeling Progressive Fibrosis with Pluripotent Stem Cells Identifies an Anti-fibrotic Small Molecule. [PDF]
Progressive organ fibrosis accounts for one-third of all deaths worldwide, yet preclinical models that mimic the complex, progressive nature of the disease are lacking, and hence, there are no curative therapies. Progressive fibrosis across organs shares

miR-132/212 knockout mice reveal roles for these miRNAs in regulating cortical synaptic transmission and plasticity [PDF]
miR-132 and miR-212 are two closely related miRNAs encoded in the same intron of a small non-coding gene, which have been suggested to play roles in both immune and neuronal function.

Glioma cells mainly express the endothelin receptor EDNRB, while EDNRA is restricted to a perivascular tumor subpopulation. Endothelin signaling reduces glioma cell proliferation while promoting migration and a proneural‐to‐mesenchymal transition associated with poor prognosis. This pathway activates Ca2+, K+, ERK, and STAT3 signalings and is regulated

Comprehending phenotypic plasticity in cancer and evolution
Organisms as well as cancer cells are adept at adapting to changes in the environment in which they find themselves, by actively adjusting their phenotype.

Microenvironment-derived factors driving metastatic plasticity in melanoma
Phenotype switching is a form of plasticity that allows melanoma cancer cells that leave the primary tumour to invade secondary sites, to switch from an invasive to a proliferative state.

Transgenerational Plasticity in the Context of Predator-Prey Interactions
Almost all animal species are engaged in predator-prey interactions. These interactions, variable in time and space, favor the emergence and evolution of phenotypic plasticity, which allows prey to fine-tune their phenotype to the current risk of ...
