Phenotypic cliffs in the RNA genotype–phenotype map
Abstract Point mutations of a genotype can leave the phenotype unchanged, or change it, in some cases radically. The extent of this phenotypic change can critically impact fitness. To investigate the range of possible phenotypic changes that result from point mutations, we analyse the structure of the well-established RNA genotype ...

ABSTRACT Background Patients with chronic kidney disease undergoing hemodialysis commonly experience reduced physical function, fatigue, poor sleep quality, and impaired health‐related quality of life. Intradialytic exercise has been proposed as a non‐pharmacological strategy to improve these outcomes.

Structural mechanisms and insights on multiple nanobodies binding diverse SOD1 epitopes
Copper/zinc superoxide dismutase (SOD1) is a crucial metalloenzyme that mitigates oxidative stress by scavenging superoxide anion radicals. Mutations and aggregation of SOD1 are closely linked to the pathogenesis of amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS ...

The phenotype of loneliness [PDF]
Goossens' (in press) review nicely maps the progression of scientific research from its early focus on loneliness as a dysphoric state that results from the discrepancy between a person's ideal and actual social relationships to its current emphasis on the centrality of loneliness to our very nature as a social species, and he argues that developmental

ABSTRACT Background Maintenance hemodialysis (MHD) patients frequently suffer from frailty, characterized by reduced physical function and poor prognosis. Myokines, such as myonectin, secreted by muscle, are emerging regulators of systemic health. This study investigated the relationship between serum myonectin, adipokines (adiponectin, omentin), and ...

Chromosomal rearrangements can drive adaptive evolution; however, whether the rearrangements in non-coding and non-promoter regions can lead to new phenotypes under selective pressures remains unclear.

Comparison, alignment, and synchronization of cell line information between CLO and EFO
Background The Experimental Factor Ontology (EFO) is an application ontology driven by experimental variables including cell lines to organize and describe the diverse experimental variables and data resided in the EMBL-EBI resources.

Abstract DEL red blood cells (RBCs) type as D– by routine serologic methods and are transfused routinely, without being identified as expressing a very weak D antigen, to D– recipients. DEL RBCs are detected only by adsorption and elution of anti-D or by molecular methods. Most DEL phenotypes have been reported in

Organoids in pediatric cancer research
Organoid technology has revolutionized cancer research, yet its application in pediatric oncology remains limited. Recent advances have enabled the development of pediatric tumor organoids, offering new insights into disease biology, treatment response, and interactions with the tumor microenvironment.

Gut microbiome and aging—A dynamic interplay of microbes, metabolites, and the immune system
Age‐dependent shifts in microbial communities engender shifts in microbial metabolite profiles. These in turn drive shifts in barrier surface permeability of the gut and brain and induce immune activation. When paired with preexisting age‐related chronic inflammation this increases the risk of neuroinflammation and neurodegenerative diseases.
