Aldoxime Metabolism Is Linked to Phenylpropanoid Production in Camelina sativa

open access: yesFrontiers in Plant Science, 2020
Plants produce diverse secondary metabolites. Although each metabolite is made through its respective biosynthetic pathway, plants coordinate multiple biosynthetic pathways simultaneously.

Isoeugenol is a selective potentiator of camptothecin cytotoxicity in vertebrate cells lacking TDP1 [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Camptothecin (CPT), a topoisomerase I (TOP1) inhibitor, exhibits anti-tumor activity against a wide range of tumors. Redundancy of TOP1-mediated repair mechanisms is a major challenge facing the efficiency of TOP1-targetting therapies. This study aims to

Pharmacokinetic Evaluation of a Cinnamon Product on CYP2A6 Substrate Drugs: Application of a Novel Tool Involving the Nicotine Metabolite Ratio

open access: yesClinical Pharmacology &Therapeutics, EarlyView.
Cinnamon (Cinnamomum spp.) is used as a culinary spice and dietary supplement. A major constituent, cinnamaldehyde, was previously shown to inactivate cytochrome P450 (CYP) 2A6 in vitro. A mechanistic static model predicted an ~5‐fold increase in the AUC of the CYP2A6 substrates nicotine and letrozole.

Silencing CHALCONE SYNTHASE in maize impedes the incorporation of tricin into lignin and increases lignin content [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Lignin is a phenolic heteropolymer that is deposited in secondary-thickened cell walls, where it provides mechanical strength. A recent structural characterization of cell walls from monocot species showed that the flavone tricin is part of the native ...

Bioactive Phenylpropanoid Glycosides from Tabebuia avellanedae

open access: yesMolecules, 2013
Three novel phenylpropanoid glycosides 2, 5, 6 were isolated from water extract of Tabebuia avellanedae, together with three known phenylpropanoid glycosides 1, 3, 4. All compounds were identified on the basis of spectroscopic analysis and chemical methods and, for known compounds, by comparison with published data.

Nanolignin Functional Separators for Flexible Lithium–Sulfur Batteries With Enhanced Performance

open access: yesENERGY &ENVIRONMENTAL MATERIALS, EarlyView.
Nanolignin‐functionalized separators, incorporating lignin nanoparticles into a crosslinked PEGDA coating applied on commercial separators, reduce polysulfide shuttling, thereby enhancing cycling performance in flexible lithium–sulfur pouch cells, while also improving thermo‐oxidative stability and flame retardancy.

Phenylpropanoid Metabolism in Phaseolus vulgaris during Growth under Severe Drought

open access: yesMetabolites
Drought limits the growth and development of Phaseolus vulgaris L. (known as common bean). Common bean plants contain various phenylpropanoids, but it is not known whether the levels of these metabolites are altered by drought.

Vanillin production from lignin depolymerization by acidic deep eutectic solvent and its possible mechanism

open access: yesEnvironmental Progress &Sustainable Energy, EarlyView.
Abstract As one of the most abundant renewable resources and complex aromatic polymers, lignin holds great promise for producing monophenolic compounds. However, its depolymerization into valuable monomers is hindered by intricate side reactions. In this study, alkaline lignin was converted into vanillin using nine choline chloride‐based deep eutectic ...

Mitigating Microbial Contamination in Fresh Fruits and Vegetables Using Ultraviolet C Irradiation: A Review

open access: yesFood Safety and Health, EarlyView.
Although fresh produce is extremely perishable and contaminated, it is essential for good health. To eliminate important foodborne pathogens, this paper investigates UV‐C irradiation as a safe, nonthermal technique. UV dose, exposure duration, and product characteristics all affect effectiveness.

A metabolomics characterisation of natural variation in the resistance of cassava to whitefly [PDF]

open access: yes, 2019
Background: Cassava whitefly outbreaks were initially reported in East and Central Africa cassava (Manihot esculenta Crantz) growing regions in the 1990's and have now spread to other geographical locations, becoming a global pest severely affecting ...
