Ethnomathematics. An Implicit Philosophy of Mathematics (Education).

Abstract We consider the field of enquiry called ethnomathematics and its role within the philosophy of mathematics (education). We elaborate on the shifted meaning of the concept "ethnomathematics". Until the early 1980s, it was reserved for the mathematical practices of 'nonliterate' -formerly labeled as 'primitive'- peoples (Ascher and Ascher, 1986).
