Targeting Adipose Tissue Function Protects Against Heart Failure with Preserved Ejection Fraction

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study explores the role adipose tissue (AT) phenotypes have in determining cardiovascular outcomes in an obesity‐related heart failure with preserved ejection fraction (HFpEF) model. Pharmacological induction of thermogenesis promoted resilience to HFpEF‐induced remodeling of AT and conferred cardioprotection. Surgical and genetic models confirmed

Impact of Intended Isocaloric Early versus Late Time‐Restricted Eating on Plasma Lipidome in Women with Overweight or Obesity: Secondary Analysis of the ChronoFast Trial

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Women with overweight or obesity follow intended isocaloric early and late time‐restricted eating (TRE) in a crossover trial. Shotgun plasma lipidomics reveals no significant differences between interventions, but identify pronounced lipid changes—including reductions in ceramides and phosphatidylcholines—within the early TRE.

Growth Performance, Dietary Energetics, Blood Metabolites, Carcass Traits, Meat Quality, and Gene Expression of Lambs Supplemented with a Polyherbal Phytogenic Additive

open access: yesVeterinary Sciences
This study aimed to evaluate the effects of supplementation with a polyherbal phytogenic additive (PPA) on the productive performance, dietary energetics, blood metabolites, carcass traits, meat quality, and gene expression of finishing lambs. Thirty-six

Lipid Ion Channels

open access: yes, 2010
The interpretation electrical phenomena in biomembranes is usually based on the assumption that the experimentally found discrete ion conduction events are due to a particular class of proteins called ion channels while the lipid membrane is considered ...

Channel-forming activity of syringopeptin 25 A in mercury-supported phospholipid monolayers and negatively charged bilayers [PDF]

open access: yes, 2016
Interactions of the cationic lipodepsipeptide syringopeptin 25 A (SP25A) with mercury-supported dioleoylphosphatidylcholine (DOPC), dioleoylphosphatidylserine (DOPS) and dioeleoylphosphatidic acid (DOPA) self-assembled monolayers (SAMs) were investigated

Auditory Hair Cell Mechanotransduction Channels Dynamically Shape the Mechanical Properties of Their Membrane Environment

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This work shows, for the first time, that the stereocilia membrane in cochlear hair cells is dynamically regulated by the mechanotransduction channel to impact the membrane mechanical properties. This work provides direct evidence that the opening and closing associated with the MET channel is regulating the membrane viscosity suggesting that the MET ...

Roles and Mechanisms of Choline Metabolism in Nonalcoholic Fatty Liver Disease and Cancers

open access: yesFrontiers in Bioscience-Landmark
Choline participates in three major metabolic pathways: oxidation, phosphorylation, and acetylation. Through oxidation, choline is converted to betaine and contributes to methyl metabolism and epigenetic regulation.

A convenient method for lecithin purification from fresh eggs

open access: yesQuímica Nova, 2008
The increasing demand for fatty acid-free lecithin required modifications in existing purification methods. In this technical note we describe a purification procedure with the following steps: a) homogenization and extraction of yolks obtained from ...

Bifurcate Regulation of Hematopoietic Homeostasis and Bone Osteogenesis by VHL‐HIF2α‐Controlled Adipocyte Function

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
The VHL‐HIF2α (VHL is Von Hippel‐Lindau) axis in adipocytes differentially regulates hematopoiesis and bone formation through stem cell factor (SCF) and chemerin, respectively. This hypoxia‐responsive pathway in adipocytes establishes a systemic signaling network with HSCs and MSCs to maintain tissue homeostasis, revealing a targetable axis for ...

Phosphatidylcholine from krill increases plasma choline and its metabolites in dogs

open access: yesVeterinary World, 2019
Background and Aim: Choline and its metabolites have multiple physiological roles in the body, which are important for muscle function, memory, methylation reactions, and hepatic lipid transport.
