Potential antioxidant activity of pomegranate peel and seed extracts and synergism with added phenolic antioxidants in a liposome system: a preliminary study [PDF]

open access: yes, 2014
peer-reviewedThis study describes the use of liposomes as biological membrane models to evaluate the potential of natural antioxidants as inhibitors of lipid peroxidation.

Increased formation of lysophosphatidic acids by lysophospholipase D in serum of hypercholesterolemic rabbits

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
Lysophosphatidic acid (LPA) is a biologically active phospholipid that has been identified as a vasoactive principle in incubated plasma and serum of mammals.

Isolation of disaturated phosphatidylcholine with osmium tetroxide

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1976
A simple, rapid, inexpensive method for isolating disaturated phosphatidylcholine from adult rat lung has been devised. Total lipids are reacted with osmium tetroxide dissolved in carbon tetrachloride, and the disaturated phosphatidylcholine is isolated ...

In vitro mimicry of essential fatty acid deficiency in human endothelial cells by TNFα impact of ω-3 versus ω-6 fatty acids

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 2002
Severe endothelial abnormalities are a prominent feature in sepsis with cytokines such as tumor necrosis factor (TNF)α being implicated in the pathogenesis.

Binding of phosphatidylcholine-14C to glass

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1969
Lecithin-(14)C was found to bind to Pyrex glass. The percentage bound varied with different organic solvents, being greatest in dioxane solution. Thorough treatment of the glass with dimethyldichlorosilane prevents the binding, which suggests that charge-charge interactions are involved.
