Integrating metabolomics and proteomics to identify novel drug targets for heart failure and atrial fibrillation. [PDF]
Background Altered metabolism plays a role in the pathophysiology of cardiac diseases, such as atrial fibrillation (AF) and heart failure (HF). We aimed to identify novel plasma metabolites and proteins associating with cardiac disease. Methods Mendelian

Pulmonary Uptake of Liposomal Phosphatidylcholine [PDF]
Liposomes prepared with phosphatidylcholine (PC) labeled with [1-14C]-dipalmitoyl-PC, dicetylphosphate, cholesterol (molar ratio 7:2:1) were injected into the right ear vein of 2-month-old male rabbits. At 5, 60, and 120 min after injection, organs were removed and analyzed for [14C]-PC. Lung, liver, and spleen took up the [14C]-PC by 5 min.

The elasticity of lipid nanoparticles (LNPs) is essential to their tumor‐targeting efficacy. Softer LNPs penetrate tumors faster and more easily enter into softer cancer cells, while stiffer LNPs show prolonged retention in stiffer tumors. The presence of protumoral M2 macrophages enhances the LNPs uptake into stiffer cancer cells, facilitating ...

An in silico MS/MS library for automatic annotation of novel FAHFA lipids. [PDF]
BackgroundA new lipid class named 'fatty acid esters of hydroxyl fatty acids' (FAHFA) was recently discovered in mammalian adipose tissue and in blood plasma and some FAHFAs were found to be associated with type 2 diabetes.

Schematic model of CJP–TiN liposomes for gastric cancer (GC) treatment. Internalizing RGD peptide (iRGD) targets tumor cells, while Chlorin e6 (Ce6) generates reactive oxygen species (ROS). Jolkinolide B (JB) activates the PANoptosis pathway via caspase‐8, enhancing GC cell death and immune response, transforming “cold tumors” into “hot tumors” by ...

Abstract Analysis of triacylglycerol (TG) and phospholipid sn‐positional isomers can be divided into two main categories: (a) direct separation by chromatography or other means such as ion mobility mass spectrometry and (b) quantification of regioisomer ratios by structurally informative fragment ions with mass spectrometric methods.

Bending Frustration of Lipid-Water Mesophases Based on Cubic Minimal Surfaces [PDF]
Inverse bicontinuous cubic phases are ubiquitous in lipid-water mixtures and consist of a lipid bilayer forming a cubic minimal surface, thereby dividing space into two cubic networks of water channels. For small hydrocarbon chain lengths, the monolayers can be modeled as parallel surfaces to a minimal midsurface. The bending energy of the cubic phases

CXCL6's function in cholangiocarcinoma is underexplored. Here it is discovered that CXCL6 is upregulated in cholangiocarcinoma tissues and promotes proliferation and metastasis of it. CXCL6 functions through the CXCR1/2‐JAK‐STAT/PI3K axis and reshaping tumor lipid metabolism.

A Stargardt disease-3 mutation in the mouse Elovl4 gene causes retinal deficiency of C32–C36 acyl phosphatidylcholines [PDF]
Stargardt disease-3 (STGD3) is a juvenile dominant macular degeneration caused by mutations in elongase of very long chain fatty acid-4. All identified mutations produce a truncated protein which lacks a motif for protein retention in endoplasmic ...

DFT-based Conformational Analysis of a Phospholipid Molecule (DMPC) [PDF]
The conformational space of the dimyristoyl phosphatidylcholine (DMPC) molecule has been studied using Density Functional Theory (DFT), augmented with a damped empirical dispersion energy term (DFT-D). Fourteen ground-state isomers have been found with total energies within less than 1 kcal/mol.
