Loss of STARD7 Triggers Metabolic Reprogramming and Cell Cycle Arrest in Breast Cancer

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Breast cancer cells undergo metabolic and transcriptomic reprogramming to support aberrant cell proliferation. Their mitochondria rely on the transfer of phosphatidylcholine from the endoplasmic reticulum to their membranes by STARD7, a candidate upregulated in breast cancer, to be functional.

Multi‐Omics and ‐Organ Insights into Energy Metabolic Adaptations in Early Sepsis Onset

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
This study shows that patients at risk of sepsis have a distinct metabolite and lipid signature, including serine and aminoadipic acid, in their serum before clinical diagnosis. A mouse model of sepsis with a compatible serum signature reveals underlying metabolic changes, including mitochondrial adaptation, altered serine‐dependent purine metabolism ...

Cholesterol uptake of isolated rat hepatocytes is accelerated by several kinds of phosphatidylcholine [PDF]

open access: yes, 1986
Uptake of cholesterol by isolated rat hepatocytes in a serum-free medium was remarkably enchanced by dispersion with several kinds of phosphatidylcholine.

Molecular species of biliary phosphatidylcholines in gallstone patients: the influence of treatment with cholic acid and chenodeoxycholic acid

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1981
Molecular species of phosphatidylcholines were analyzed in hepatic and gallbladder bile obtained from six subjects with adenomyoma of the gallbladder (gallstone-free controls) and 27 gallstone patients undergoing cholecystectomy.

Aggregation behaviour of a single-chain, phenylene-modified bolalipid and its miscibility with classical phospholipids

open access: yesBeilstein Journal of Organic Chemistry, 2017
In the present work, we describe the synthesis of a single-chain, phenylene-modified bolalipid with two phosphocholine headgroups, PC-C18pPhC18-PC, using a Sonogashira cross-coupling reaction as a key step.

Natural and bionic neuronal membranes: possible sites for quantum biology [PDF]

open access: yesarXiv, 2020
A new concept for bionic quantum technology is presented based on a hybrid of a silicon wafer on which is layered a phospholipid membrane, such as is found in biological cell membranes. The phosphorus atoms in the head groups of the membranes carry nuclear spins which serve as memory qubits. The role of control qubits may be played by unpaired spins of

PHOSPHO1 Suppresses Ferroptosis in Retinal Pigment Epithelial Cells by Reducing the Levels of Phosphatidylethanolamine Molecular Species

open access: yesAdvanced Science, EarlyView.
Iron‐induced lipid peroxidation of phosphatidylethanolamine (PE) species is the key driver of ferroptosis. The authors discovered that PHOSPHO1 lowers the level of PE in retinal pigment epithelial cells thus reducing the formation of lipid peroxides. Lowering PE levels can also prevent the creation of autolysosomes, reduce the production of free iron ...

A generic model for lipid monolayers, bilayers, and membranes

open access: yes, 2006
We describe a simple coarse-grained model which is suited to study lipid layers and their phase transitions. Lipids are modeled by short semiflexible chains of beads with a solvophilic head and a solvophobic tail component.

Synthesis of the diacetylenic phospholipids 1,2-(10',12'-heptadecadiynoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phophatidylcholine and 1,2-(4',6'-tricosadiynoyl)-sn-glycero-3-phophatidylcholine

open access: yesJournal of the Brazilian Chemical Society, 2001
Diacetylenic phosphatidylcholines are synthetic compounds analogous to natural phospholipids. These molecules can be hydrated to form bilayered aggregates known as liposomes in a manner similar to natural phosphatidylcholines.

Platelet and Plasma Phosphatidylcholines as Biomarkers to Diagnose Cerebral Amyloid Angiopathy

open access: yesFrontiers in Neurology, 2020
Alzheimer's disease is a severe neurodegenerative brain disorder and characterized by deposition of extracellular toxic β-amyloid (42) plaques and the formation of intracellular tau neurofibrillary tangles.
