An efficient synthesis of phosphatidylcholines.

open access: yesJournal of Lipid Research, 1990
This article deals with two of the major steps involved in phospholipid synthesis: the preparation of the optically pure precursors, sn-glycero-3-phosphocholine (GPC) and -ethanolamine, from a convenient lipid source such as egg yolk, and acylation of hydroxyl groups present in those precursors involving an acid to yield the corresponding phospholipid.

Mass spectrometry of the phosphatidylcholines: dipalmitoyl, dioleoyl, and stearoyl-oleoyl glycerylphosphorylcholines

open access: hybridJournal of Lipid Research, 1971
Mass spectra of the diacyl glycerylphosphorylcholines have been obtained using a direct insertion probe, with a source temperature of 250°C at an ionizing potential of 70 ev.

Associations of Early Pregnancy Metabolite Profiles with Gestational Blood Pressure Development

open access: yesMetabolites, 2022
Blood pressure development plays a major role in both the etiology and prediction of gestational hypertensive disorders. Metabolomics might serve as a tool to identify underlying metabolic mechanisms in the etiology of hypertension in pregnancy and lead ...

The Expanded Endocannabinoid System Contributes to Metabolic and Body Mass Shifts in First-Episode Schizophrenia: A 5-Year Follow-Up Study

open access: yesBiomedicines, 2022
Alterations in the expanded endocannabinoid system (eECS) and cell membrane composition have been implicated in the pathophysiology of schizophrenia spectrum disorders. We enrolled 54 antipsychotic (AP)-naïve first-episode psychosis (FEP) patients and 58

Unique Distribution of Diacyl-, Alkylacyl-, and Alkenylacyl-Phosphatidylcholine Species Visualized in Pork Chop Tissues by Matrix-Assisted Laser Desorption/Ionization–Mass Spectrometry Imaging

open access: yesFoods, 2020
Phosphatidylcholine (PC) is the major phospholipid in meat and influences meat qualities, such as healthiness. PC is classified into three groups based on the bond at the sn-1 position: Diacyl, alkylacyl, and alkenylacyl. To investigate their composition

Fasting increases 18:2-containing phosphatidylcholines to complement the decrease in 22:6-containing phosphatidylcholines in mouse skeletal muscle.

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2021
Fasting stimulates catabolic reactions in skeletal muscle to survive nutrient deprivation. Cellular phospholipids have large structural diversity due to various polar-heads and acyl-chains that affect many cellular functions. Skeletal muscle phospholipid

Phosphatidylcholines from Pieris brassicae eggs activate an immune response in Arabidopsis

open access: yeseLife, 2020
Recognition of conserved microbial molecules activates immune responses in plants, a process termed pattern-triggered immunity (PTI). Similarly, insect eggs trigger defenses that impede egg development or attract predators, but information on the nature ...

Elevated Free Phosphatidylcholine Levels in Cerebrospinal Fluid Distinguish Bacterial from Viral CNS Infections

open access: yesCells, 2021
The identification of CSF biomarkers for bacterial meningitis can potentially improve diagnosis and understanding of pathogenesis, and the differentiation from viral CNS infections is of particular clinical importance.

The human plasma-metabolome: Reference values in 800 French healthy volunteers; impact of cholesterol, gender and age. [PDF]

open access: yesPLoS ONE, 2017
Metabolomic approaches are increasingly used to identify new disease biomarkers, yet normal values of many plasma metabolites remain poorly defined. The aim of this study was to define the "normal" metabolome in healthy volunteers. We included 800 French
