Phosphatidylinositol signalling reactions

Seminars in Cell & Developmental Biology, 1998
Phosphatidylinositols are important in intracellular signaling. In response to extracellular signals, these molecules undergo rapid turnover and generate second messengers including diacylglycerol, inositol 1,4,5-trisphosphate, phosphatidylinositol 3,4-bisphosphate (PtdIns 3,4P2) and phosphatidylinositol 3,4,5-trisphosphate (PtdIns 3,4,5-P3).

Phosphatidylinositol 4-kinases, phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and cancer

Cancer Letters, 2012
This article focuses on the emerging roles for phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate and the phosphatidylinositol 4-kinases in cancer. Phosphatidylinositol 4-phosphate is a common substrate for both the phosphatidylinositol 3-kinase and phospholipase C pathways, and has been implicated in the membrane targeting of proteins such as Girdin/GIV and OSBP ...

Phosphatidylinositol mannosides: Synthesis and adjuvant properties of phosphatidylinositol di- and tetramannosides

Bioorganic & Medicinal Chemistry, 2006
Phosphatidylinositol mannosides (PIMs) isolated from mycobacteria have been identified as an important class of glycolipids with significant immune modulating properties. We present here the syntheses of phosphatidylinositol dimannoside (PIM2, 1) and phosphatidylinositol tetramannoside (PIM4, 2) and evaluate their adjuvant properties in a transgenic ...

ChemInform Abstract: Synthesis of Phosphatidylinositol Mannosides. [PDF]

open access: possibleChemInform, 2013
AbstractThe cell envelope of mycobacterial species, which include the deadly Mycobacterium tuberculosis, carries unique glycan structures that are crucial for infection and bacterial survival. Notable among these glycans are the structurally‐related phosphatidylinositol mannosides (PIMs), lipomannan, and lipoarabinomannan. The immunoactivities of these

Phosphatidylinositol liposomes opsonized by concanavalin a stimulate phosphatidylinositol turnover in macrophages

Biochemical and Biophysical Research Communications, 1986
We have previously found that concanavalin A binds specifically to inositol and phosphatidylinositol. In the present study we demonstrate that binding of concanavalin A to liposomes containing phosphatidylinositol influences the uptake of such liposomes by macrophages.

Nuclear Phosphatidylinositol Signaling: Focus on Phosphatidylinositol Phosphate Kinases and Phospholipases C

Journal of Cellular Physiology, 2015
Phosphatidylinositol (PI) metabolism represents the core of a network of signaling pathways which modulate many cellular functions including cell proliferation, cell differentiation, apoptosis, and membrane trafficking. An array of kinases, phosphatases, and lipases acts on PI creating an important number of second messengers involved in different ...

Anti‐inflammatory actions of phosphatidylinositol

European Journal of Immunology, 2011
AbstractChronic inflammatory T‐cell‐mediated diseases such as inflammatory bowel disease (IBD) are often treated with immunosuppressants including corticosteroids. In addition to the intended T‐cell suppression, these farmacons give rise to many side effects. Recently, immunosuppressive phospholipids have been proposed as less‐toxic alternatives.

Requirement for phosphatidylinositol-3 kinase in the prevention of apoptosis by nerve growth factor.

Science, 1995
Nerve growth factor (NGF) induces both differentiation and survival of neurons by binding to the Trk receptor protein tyrosine kinase. Although Ras is required for differentiation, it was not required for NGF-mediated survival of rat pheochromocytoma PC ...

Kinetics of phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C with vesicles of a thiophosphate analogue of phosphatidylinositol

Chemistry and Physics of Lipids, 1996
1,2-Dimyristoyloxypropane-3-thiophospho(1D-1-myo-inositol) (D-thio-DMPI) was synthesized as a substrate for the continuous spectrophotometric assay of phosphatidylinositol-specific phospholipase C (PI-PLC) from Bacillus cereus. Release of thio-diglyceride is followed by a coupled reaction with 4,4'-dithiopyridine to produce a chromophore, 4 ...
