Diacylglycerol (DAG) and phosphatidic acid (PtdOH) play important roles in a variety of signaling cascades (Carrasco and Merida, 2007; Stace and Ktistakis, 2006). Therefore, the physiological roles and regulatory mechanisms controlling the levels of these lipids are important.

Neurofilament proteins (NFPs) are highly phosphorylated molecules in the axonal compartment of the adult nervous system. The phosphorylation of NFP is considered an important determinant of filament caliber, plasticity, and stability. This process reflects the function of NFs during the lifetime of a neuron from differentiation in the embryo through ...

Comparative Biochemistry and Physiology Part B: Comparative Biochemistry, 1989
1. Myofibrils isolated from Mercenaria mercenaria were phosphorylated by endogenous kinase. Over a range of ionic strengths only paramyosin was phosphorylated. 2. Thiophosphorylation of paramyosin caused an inhibition of steady-state actin-activated ATPase activity of the myofibrils. 3. It is proposed that the endogenous kinase is the catalytic subunit

Non-phosphorylated intermediates in oxidative phosphorylation
Biochimica et Biophysica Acta, 1963Abstract 1. 1. This paper is concerned with the study of the formation of non-phosphorylated intermediates in digitonin particles prepared from rat-liver mitochondria. 2. 2. Digitonin particles were preincubated with either β-hydroxybutyrate, sucinate or ferrocytochrome c for a short time at 20°.

Photosynthetic phosphorylation
Photosynthesis Research, 1995A brief history of the discovery of photosynthetic phosphorylation by chloroplasts and bacterial chromatophores is presented. Arnon early introduced the terminology of 'Cyclic' and 'Non-cyclic photophosphorylation' and 'Cyclic' and 'Non-Cyclic electron transport' to the processes observed in illuminated chloroplasts.

Current Opinion in Structural Biology, 1996
The two examples of phospho and dephospho proteins for which structural data were previously available (glycogen phosphorylase and isocitrate dehydrogenase) demonstrated two different mechanisms for control. In glycogen phosphorylase, activation by phosphorylation results in long-range allosteric changes.
